This will probably be an obvious question to those of you more experienced tasters, but wondering how long would you normally budget for a cellar visit. Of course, understanding that it depends on the producer’s range, rapport, etc., but as I try to build a day’s program (and the producers are pretty much one next to the other), and after reading tips on tis forum about limiting oneself to 3 visits, wondering how to space them out: do people typically do 1 appointment in the morning and two after lunch? Is a 10am tasting “typically” a producer’s only one before lunchtime? Sorry for the rookie question.
So many variables. How far apart, what are your lunch plans, what are your priorities, etc.
The reality is that if it’s your first time at a producer, it’s hard to predict how long you’ll spend. It could be over quickly (30 minutes) and it could run several hours. I think people tend to err on the side of giving yourself room in the schedule to let the visits last, because you might not want to be the one cutting it short.
If you can get a 9am, you might be able to do 9am and 11am and then one after lunch. But if 10am is your first, then you probably want two after lunch.
And then it all depends on whether you’re booking a reservation for a drawn-out lunch, or just doing something quick and casual.
Maybe an hour usually.
Thank you both! This is exactly the insight I was hoping for. Cheers.
When I was there, we did two in one day and we were in Meursault. They were quite close together.
The next day was a morning tasting/tour and then we drove to Jura, which is so worth it.
