Burgundy or Tuscany?

Thinking about the next vacation my wife and I should take. We have both travelled a bit both together and before we were married. We have always enjoyed wine but are seeming to advance our interest a lot lately and are amassing a bit of a cellar. We have been to Italy and Tuscany before (me twice, her once. latest was last fall), but have not spent any real time in the countryside drinking wine. Most of our time has been spent in Florence and Siena and Pisa seeing the sites. My wife loves Brunello above all, but has a general passion for French wine. I love all Italian wine, but also have a particular interest in Burgundy. You can likely see my dilemma. Anything to tip the scales either way? Any insight would be appreciated.

You can drink a lot better with Brunello than with Burgundy for the money. Assuming you like both equally. Tuscany is generally considered one of the most beautiful places on earth. The intellectual side of Burgundy can be a bit, or a lot, pretentious.

Hi Jeff
Rather than seeing it as a problem, think of it as a choice between two good options. Both are rewarding.

One deciding factor can be logistics - maybe there are some great flight deals into Pisa or Firenze, but mot Dijon or Lyons? Or maybe you’ve seen perfect accommodation near Beaune, but are struggling to find anything near Montalcino?

If undecided, I’d start trying to put flesh onto both options and see which one falls into place the best.

Ian

Good advice. Thanks all. As with a lot of things, in the end my wife’s desires probably factor more into it than most other things.

Thanks for the threads, Gary.
