Burgundy on a Budget in December - Looking for Recommendations

Hi folks -

I am seeking recommendations for producers in Burgundy that might have appointments in early December. I am also looking for restaurant recommendations.

Here are my parameters:

  • No unicorns. I am not looking to get into Raveneau, but I also don’t want to tour Drouhin again. In 2019, I was perfectly happy tasting at Dom. Michel Noellat and Dom. Armelle & Bernard Rion. I tend to prefer Cote de Nuits reds.

  • No $$$$ dinners. I prefer restaurants that specialize in local / regional dishes, with a very good by the glass list. In 2019, I was happy at La Buissonniere. An expensive dinner for me would be 100 euros including a glass or two of wine. Something like Le Maufoux or a notch higher?

  • I have a winning smile but speak almost no French.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Really enjoyed Maison du Colombier in Beaune for dinner. I speak fluent French but my wife speaks not a word … they had an English menu as well. Bottle list to die for, of course, but nice by the glass pours as well — and very easy to hit your 100E price point.

Le Soleil is great. Run by the Bize family.

Au Clos Napoleon in Fixin.
A no nonsense kind of place, with solid food and a good wine list with excellent outperforming local names: Bart, Joliet, Gelin… And an attached Caveau to buy wines.
And while there go for a walk around la Combe de Fixin: a small Napoleon museum and statue, and three kinds of woodpeckers.

Restaurants - Relais du Saulx and Caves Madeleine. At Maufoux I had a chopped veal dish (looked like a giant meatball). The key was the heavenly Epoisses sauce on it.

Look into this. Breakaways | Armand Heitz Also, try Domaine Amiot et Fils.

Thank you, Howard.
