Burbank, CA

I’ll be in Burbank for work in Mid-February. It looks like I might have one lunch and one dinner outside of work events.

Any place I should check out? I’ll be near the airport and using Uber/Taxi.

Thanks!

I have clients in Burbank, and I never eat in Burbank. It’s 15-20 min to lots of other places with better food, in my experience. Even DTLA is quick if you’re not going at the worst traffic times.

Could I be so bold as to ask for a couple of recommendations?

Parameters
Price: on expense account but not unlimited.
Cuisine: No favorite cuisine but something atypical could be cool.
Alcohol: Yes, please! But it doesn’t have to be wine.

The LA Dining thread has an enormous amount of information, more than I could ever begin to get into, and I don’t know where all of them are, so it’s worth reading that thread with Google Maps open and just checking it out for places not on the westside. Some favorites in DTLA are Majordomo and Damian. In Japantown, there is Sushi Gen and Kinjiro. In Koreatown I like Kabawoo.

Sherman oaks and anajak aren’t that far away.

I’m one of the few on this board who don’t really love Anajak. The food to me is good, not great, and the room is painfully loud. The wine list is very good, though.

The area around Burbank has plenty of good food if you’re into persian/armenian? if so happy to give recs

Absolutely! Please do tell.

Raffi’s place is a classic persian spot in Glendale. Huge dining hall

Then there’s Mini kabob in glendale - armenian, small shack, no dining room, just a picnic table outside, also excellent

Yerord Mas just opened, western armenian, not kabobs, more cooked dishes, soups/stews and a killer brisket sandwich.

In Burbank, Sotta and Original Kabob Factory are excellent

Burbank itself has plenty of independent american restaurants that are decent. You don’t need to travel too far to eat something.

My friend’s bar The Famous is pretty good as well

Awesome, thank you Charlie! I’ll circle back after the trip. :folded_hands:

Skaf’s in Glendale is solid for Lebanese. Great fried branzino, frog legs, lamb, as well as the standards. Low to no corkage fee.

If I had to stay in Burbank, it’d probably be a steakhouse like Capital Grille or Morton’s. You’re also not far from Hollywood & Studio City.

Looks like it will be Anajak and we’re trying to see if we can fit Augustine Wine Bar after a work event. The Famous is on the list of late night drinks if such a thing arises (it tends to against our better judgment).

Thanks y’all!

Well, as always, the best plans get derailed!

Last night, we were at Bodega Malbec for a work get together. We were a couple of glasses of Zaha Malbec 2021 into it (weird to be served this wine out of the blue when I had a bottle of 2014 in my cellar not knowing where it came from: What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2) - #8182 by Phil_T_r_o_t_t_e_r, the 2021 is no better) when the place caught fire!

Grease fire in the ventilation. The organizer found a backup in the Palma Ristorante on Palm Ave E. The beef tartare was over-seasoned and the bone marrow had too much garlic. However, the Wagyu Ribeye Tip was quite good and the Brussel sprouts were decent. We started the meal with cocktails (old-fashioned for me, Manhattan for others) an we had the 2022 Château Loudennes and an Antinori Chianti from another table. Meh wine night. We ended the night way too late at the hotel bar clearing old-fashioned after old-fashioned.

Tonight we hit Anajak and had a pretty decent meal (Hamachi crudo, prawns, grilled cabbage, pork collar, pork ribs and drunken noodles). We had a chat with Ian the Wine Director, lovely guy. We picked Les Quatre Piliers Bel Air 2022 because I love this wine, never had this vintage and can’t get it in Quebec. We ended with a Nerello Mascalese. We enjoyed the food and the wines. The vibe was chill and the service was on point. Good place.

We’re flying back to Montreal from LAX very early tomorrow AM so The Famous was out of reach. Next time!

Thank you all for the pointers and recommendations. It helped us overcome this terrible weather we had all week!
