BTG Restaurant/Wine Bar in New York?

Is there anywhere in NYC (Midtown ideally, but I guess anywhere) that offers random, special BTG selections? I’m thinking of something like how Wally’s in LA will open random first growths every night and sell them BTG.

I’m not sure where you might find First Growths by the glass, but you might check out Bar Boulud (the former somm, Ian, opened large formats almost every night) and Aldo Sohm Wine Bar. Wine Spectator recently opened an affiliated restaurant in Hudson Yards, so maybe check there.

Both very good, but both lean AFWE:

Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, near Rockefeller Center

Bar Boulud, at 64th and Broadway, opposite Lincoln Center

As Asher said, Bar Boulud often has some magnum open that’s not on the list. I’ve done very well by those. They tend to be Burgundy or Rhone or Loire. Not so much Bordeaux there.

Definitely not married to the idea of BDX … more just something special not typically on a BTG list that being in a city with a big wine scene might allow me to enjoy. There’s a lot I love about living in the Florida panhandle but the non-Napa wines available at restaurants isn’t one of them.

Have not been to this particular location, but have been to the East Side ones that had closed since. Terroir in Tribeca has a deeper btg list than most local winebars, claiming 83 wines btg in their online menu. A little heavy on Riesling, but there’ll be something for everyone, save for Bordeaux First Growths which I believe you can order in bottle formats.

Plus, the bar foods are good.

there are probably a few places that have wine under coravin for these types of requests. no idea who. but given the immense opportunity to drink great wines all over the city, i don’t see btg as a great option or value. half bottles maybe.

what did RN74 do when they were still open?

I would second the recommendations for Aldo Sohm, it has great selections that you wouldn’t find elsewhere and it’s a cool, funky environment.

I would also recommend looking at BTG menu at The Bar Room at the Modern (at MoMA).

I used to go there often. I wasn’t sure if the Tribeca one survived Covid. Glad if it has.

In the interest of full disclosure, it should be said that it’s very much a hipster joint and the music can be deafening. But looking at the current list, it really is time for a return visit. You won’t find more offbeat wines BTG anywhere.

Aldo Sohm is my favorite spot in Midtown by far. Great, laid back vibe (most of the time) and high quality wine list.

I’d say Bar Boulud as John had posted previously although they usually don’t have Bordeaux open it’s always something good,Also, Aldo Sohm is a great option also…Good luck.

+1 to Bar Boulud. I remember the Bronzino is excellent there.
