Brilliant Aussie Chardy

  • 1994 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard - Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth (6/4/2014)
This was a scintillating bottle. There’s plenty of struck match to the aroma along with notes of fig, cashew, white peach, toast and nougat. In the mouth it is layered like a great Montrachet. There’s plenty of dense orchard fruits, some butterscotch and citrus and minerals. It still has good tension and energy although acidity is softening and length of flavour is superb.

How I wish I had the balls to try more Australian wine, as I keep being told there are some truly spectacular wines from there, but it’s so difficult to get past what happened with Aussie wine right around the time I was really getting into it, thus it resonates strongly with me.

Todd, we should do a Berserkerfest in Aussieland… Then we can do the Caribbean version.

we would certainly enjoy looking after you guys if you wanted to organise a road trip!

OMG that would be awesome - particularly if we could arrange a couple planeloads (one East Coast, one West Coast) for BerserkerFest IN THE PLANES on the way over!

Three planes - one mid-coast as well
