Anybody have a good contact for servicing or replacing a Breezaire unit in the South SF Bay Area?
How old is it?
What is wrong with it?
Craig,
These guys in Mountain View came to my home and recharged my old Wine Mate unit with refrigerant a few months ago, and it’s been working fine since:

The unit is s Breezaire WK2200. It may be ten years old. It is blowing but not cooling.
I spoke to one place yesterday and they recommended replacing it as they said it’s not possible to recharge the coolant without an expensive repair.
True, it’s not designed to be recharged with refrigerant (no refill valve is built in). But these guys poke a valve into it and do so (they leave the valve permanently attached; it could, in theory, be used to refill it again, I think). Before leaving they made sure that there is no leakage around where they punctured the container with valve.
Successfully used this firm many moons ago…

Thanks, Dan. I will call them.
Just because it is blowing warm air does it mean there is a refrigerant problem, it could be a bad capacitor or loose wire. Did the temp start climbing gradually or quickly?
Filling with refrigerant isn’t a repair. A valve and recharge will cost $200+ min. with no guarantee how long it will last. Ideally the leak gets fixed.
At ten years I’d suggest you got good service from the unit, I wouldn’t put a penny toward a unit that old. Replace it with a Le Cache 1800XT(S) and you will be super happy.
+1 This is the route I chose after getting some solid advice from a local service company.
