I have found one that I really like here in Vancouver. It is made by Braida and it’s the 2013 vintage.
How long do you think it would keep for in my wine fridge at 60 degrees?
I’m not looking for improvement, I just want to buy a dozen or so and drink them over the next year or two. Due to our government controlled distribution things come and go. I haven’t seen a Brachetto for about a decade.
Love it and love Braida’s version. Haven’t seen it in my market in a while either. I think it would certainly last for 2 years so no problem drinking them over a year.
They are never better than after they are first released. I consider Braida’s to be the benchmark for Brachetto, but it still needs to be drunk as young as possible.
My rule of thumb on Brachetto and Moscato is - the minute the next vintage is released, drink up whatever you have of the last vintage.
IME they’re still very lively 2-3 years after vintage, so keeping them that long won’t see them fall over.
So despite no benefit in cellaring, they really shouldn’t lose much appeal over 1-2 years.
p.s. Brachetto has become my preferred aperitivo when in Italy. It’s a great energiser after propping up the local economy.
I second the idea of drinking Brachetto young within 2-3 years of release as well from personal experience. I found a 4 year old Brachetto once at the LCBO and thought I’d give it a try as there would be very little opportunity to taste an older Brachetto. I should have left it on the shelf. It was definitely degrading, losing bubbles, body and primary fruit flavors.
Check out Andrea Sottimano’s still, dry Brachetto, ‘Mate’ some time. Cool stuff.
+1 on drinking it early. Braida is great…
