I am gifting my Son in law a Bourbon smoking kit for Xmas and would like to add a bottle of Bourbon to get him started. I understand that the style should be “Bourbons with notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, and spice”. Any recs in the $50- 60 range?
I’d probably go with something classic like buffalo trace, wild turkey, etc
Eagle Rare would be my choice
For a beginning bourbon drinker I’m assuming?
Why not something like Woodford Double Oaked or if looking for something maybe considered cooler (and not as sweet/viscous) Old Forester 1910 which comes from the same line and profile (double barrel).
I’ve never used a smoker but these will give you those vanilla, oak and caramel profiles.
Thanks, yes a beginner Bourbon drinker.
Get him started right with a 1.75L of Old Crow.
I’m a fan of Angel’s Envy in that price range. Michter’s is solid too.
In my area, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are hard to find and overpriced. I don’t think either is worth more than $40.
