Bourbon alternatives

With the current trade war I’m looking for Bourbon alternatives. Principally in cocktails, especially Paper Plane , but also Boulvardier and Manhattan, and occasionally sipping.
Not a fan of Rye per se. I’m currently using a whiskey made in Halifax called Signal Hill but looking for other suggestions.

I think Crown Royal does a great job with their higher end stuff. Lot 40 is also fantastic, though rye centric.

In the Irish whiskey realm, you could start with something like Jameson Black Barrel to get a more bouron-like character.

Yes, non US , due to trade war. Bourbon not available here. (And even if it were I would not buy under current situation, but not looking to debate that in this thread. )
But looking for Bourbon style vs Scoth, or rye.
Price - up to date $100 Can, ideally say 40-70, of course less is fine if it’s good! . Availability in Ontario is critical.

Anejo Tequila and Rum.

Many classic whiskey cocktails already have a tequila variation (old fashioned, manhattan, etc).

Rum is often overlooked, but worth exploring. As certain islands are european territories, you’ll also be shielded from certain tarrif schemes.

And I am intentionally excluding canadian, irish and scottish equivalents. I assume you’ve already looked into those.

Crown

Crown Royal? That’s rye isn’t it?

It’s a blend with some rye. Northern Harvest is their Rye.
Crown 18 yr is a huge step up imo.

Canadian club 12 yr (another blend) is a decent mixer

JP Wisers 15 yr seems to be their sweet spot.

Another vote for tequila. There are many very good, yet inexpensive Reposado…spend a bit more for Anejo…or go for Avion 44…Extra Anejo and my personal favorite.
