This summer’s offerings are all about horizontals.
Every once in a while, you need to look at wines across a vintage. More time is spent looking at single wines, across different vintages, but we thought it would be fun to put together packages that look at a particular vintage’s wines. All of the horizontal packages are 50% with shipping included! We appreciate the support from our WineBerserkers community, and much like Berserker Days, we want to give you access to some great wines, and really low pricing.

The 2020 vintage was progressing beautifully until late-September wildfires disrupted the season. Fortunately, all the fruit harvested and fermented before the fires produced exceptional wines. Any fruit that remained on the vines after the fires was not harvested.
Because we source fruit from vineyards across Napa Valley and Sonoma County, we were able to craft beautiful wines from the earlier-ripening sites. This collection showcases three of those exceptional vineyards.

The 2021 vintage tells the story of an exceptional growing season. A timely budbreak, followed by consistently mild weather, created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. Warm, sunny days and an absence of significant rainfall allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, achieving outstanding balance and concentration. The resulting wines are rich and densely layered, with vibrant acidity that makes them enjoyable in their youth while providing excellent potential for long-term cellaring. Simply put, 2021 is a truly outstanding vintage.

Budbreak began about two weeks earlier than usual, and with below-average winter rainfall, the region entered its third consecutive year of drought. Mild summer weather led to an early start to harvest, and the first wines produced display remarkable freshness and vibrancy.
Midway through harvest, a significant heat spike challenged a few vineyards. Rather than harvest fruit that had been affected, we chose to forgo those lots and focus instead on our later-ripening vineyards. Those sites benefited from the extended growing season and have produced wines of exceptional depth, richness, and concentration.

The 2019 parched. Napa Valley Red Wine is a blend consisting of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 19% Merlot, 13% Barbera, and 2% Malbec. The fruit for this wine is sourced throughout the Napa Valley with a good mix of mountain fruit along with valley floor fruit. The wine exhibits a dark, inky red color, with a richness on the mid-palate, reminiscent of luscious, dark fruit. Layered well with spice and toasty oak, this medium to full bodied wine will be quite pleasant from the start but will reward short term cellaring.
The 2021 parched. Napa Valley Red Wine is a blend consisting of 80% Petite Sirah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Petit Verdot. The fruit for this wine is sourced throughout the Napa Valley with a good mix of mountain fruit along with valley floor fruit. The wine exhibits a dark, inky red color, with a richness on the mid-palate, reminiscent of luscious, dark fruit. Layered well with spice and toasty oak, this medium to full bodied wine will be quite pleasant from the start but will reward short term cellaring.

Our Vineyard Sources
Ridgeback Estate Vineyard - Spring Mountain District
Our estate vineyard, Ridgeback Vineyard, sits atop a craggy knoll approximately 1,000 feet above the town of St. Helena. Its undulating hills and rocky soils provide excellent drainage, leaving very little water or nutrients available in the soil. As a result, the vines are forced to dig deep in search of natural water sources. This challenging environment yields small, intensely flavored berries.
Stagecoach Vineyard - Pritchard Hill Area of Napa Valley
Nestled between Pritchard Hill and the Atlas Peak AVA, this vast mountain top vineyard sits between 1200’ and 1750’ above sea level, well above the fog line. A difficult terrain to farm, immense amounts of basalt boulders were removed prior to planting this south facing vineyard. We source from a few blocks, containing different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
Yates Family Vineyard - Mt Veeder
Situated approximately 1,300 feet above the valley floor, Yates Family Vineyard sits high on a steeply sloping ridge, offering excellent drainage and outstanding sun exposure. It is a challenging vineyard to work, as all farming is done by hand. The demanding terrain creates a difficult environment for fruit to grow, resulting in small berries formed into loose clusters. These conditions produce wines with exceptional color and structure, and remarkable aging potential.
Caldwell Vineyard - Coombsville
Our Coombsville vineyard source resides in the Coombsville Caldera. This half-bowl formation was formed when a volcano erupted and collapsed upon itself, leaving a pocket where the cool marine air from San Pablo Bay collects during the warm summer days. This allows for extended hang-time on the vine, resulting in a long, steady growing season
