Bordeaux 2023

That’s not marking up.

That’s including the tariff.

I tasted the wines in Zurich as usual. Here are so many people around who like Bordeaux from the so called “good old days”. 2023 might be the right vintage for them.

The wines have moderate alcohol, are not heavy extracted, new oak is carefully used and is a minor factor in their profile.

In short: 20023 is a lighter style of Bordeaux but not diluted. I would say a better vintage than 2012 with a pretty similar character.

I’m still working on all of my notes for CT, but I just published some thoughts about the vintage based on my experience at the UGC tasting:

Quick notes:

I quite liked the vintage in tasting. I think it’s consistent with what I’m experiencing across Europe in that silkier mouthfeels are what is aimed for while more gentle winemaking also allows for earlier drinking. There was a lack of pyrazines, but the fruit was still very much in the red spectrum. I’m much happier with this than what I tasted from the 21 vintage recently and certainly more than the 07, 11, and 13 vintages.
