Bordeaux 2022

That’s fine Mark. I will start a new post in the other thread when there is time.

Yes, that is clear my friend. Yes, when I am free I do write more. When I’m running around I write less. Sorry that does not suit you. I will copy this also.

I did not start this. William acknowledged that his post was the beginning.

Ah, but you only accept answers which you want and refuse the ones you do not like which is rather convenient for you I suppose.

I am thoroughly uninterested in the schoolyard question of “who started it”. The substance of the debate is in this thread, it concerns Bordeaux scoring and it is relevant. @Mark_Golodetz @martijnstolze @Brian_G_r_a_f_s_t_r_o_m and I have raised issues in this thread that you have not responded to. I expect all of us would appreciate an answer in this thread that is germane and responsive to the issues raised.

Your effort to require posters to “raise the issues in the appropriate thread” is rude, high handed, and smacks of treatment many of us expect from customer service. We are not your customers. If you have chosen to engage on this forum, you should do so as an ordinary poster in good faith.

Well, you pointed at me so I corrected.

Sorry you feel that way. But I can’t help you with that.

I’ve responded and explained. You were not happy with it and want to play vocabular parlor games in a raised and demanding voice. I guess you are accustomed to having your way.

I will stay on the topic of Bordeaux 2022 in this thread and am awaiting William to get back to me on that subject.

For all the “OMG I can’t believe they are calling themselves The Wine Independent” then:

Johan,

most important for a critic of any field is credibility. You know that. If Lisa said her scores were the result of blind tasting and this is not true a problem cannot be denied.

I would recommend to say faithfully either that she did not correct her blind tasting scores or to say that this was a mistake.

Anything else makes the problem only bigger. The discussion will not come to an end then.

Or, to be honest, clarity of explanation. I can accept that the world isn’t so black and white as well

(still waiting for Jeff’s list of recommendations though

Do you follow me on Instagram? I’ve been posting daily tips. Maybe this is how tasting notes should be presented?

This quote from an EP email I just got is too on point not to share:

Justine Tesseron (Chateau Pontet Canet): “this might as well be our best vintage ever”

what I liked most about this was:

What is clear to me is that there is potential global demand for this vintage – but not at any price. What is equally clear to me is that many Bordeaux lovers will be returning with renewed interest to the 2020 vintage to supplement whatever en primeur purchases might tempt them.

Well, don’t put words in my mouth, please — I never said “mission for the meek,” or anything similar. Quite frankly, what you consider to be an act of “bravery” here, I view as intellectually engaging and fun. Thank you for your reply. :wine_glass:

Ouch

The négociants that I speak to are expecting increases in release prices of around 20-25 per cent (in €s) on average with the anticipated range of release price increases being between 10 and 35 per cent or so (for the classed growths and their peers, rising towards the top).

10% I might be ok with…35% hell no, will just back fill and so will most others…

Ohhh, if only this were true …

Unfortunately in some instances it seems to be the exact opposite!

Hay evidently doesn’t consider concision a merit in wine critics, and at least no one can accuse him of hypocrisy.

In reality, the time for long exegesis on properties’ approaches and their results is when reviewing bottled wines, where the time constraints of releases are not so pressing, and where the rhythm of tasting can and should be slower. Châteaux have been known to release their wines during en primeur week itself, and this year, the first releases start tomorrow I’m told. Anyone who hasn’t published leaves their readers uninformed.

…and I bought a building supplies manufacturer (heavy industry) in order to build ever larger fascilities to “house” my habit. So what? It’s not only about what one has cellared, it’s about what one drinks and how often. The limits are in the realm of mathematics (life span) and health. Most “wine writers” just taste and don’t drink. Just look at the averages pp / annum.
This is not a personal attack. Wine writing is predominantly BS and a frindge excercise. I just passed the threshold of reason as I am now in my early fifties. Hence o _cks given. I’m just discusted of the pompous BS around this profession. Salute.

Can somebody send me a screenshot of where Lisa claimed non-blind TNs were blind, please? PM/DM is fine. I will keep you in confidence.

Johan has conspicuously failed to address this issue (which says a lot), so it would be nice to see the source material at this point. Thank you!
