I visited Léoville Barton today (which I’ll post more about when we get back) - we tasted amongst others both Léoville and Langoa 2022s. I was impressed by both but particularly by Langoa. It was interesting to try the 15 next to the 22: the former was much better than expected but the latter was a revelation- highly recommended for those in the market for 2022s and at 50 euros (I think), excellent value.
Ahhhh. Dont tempt me!
Thanks for the feedback on Langoa 22, missed it on chateauprimeur when first launched. Found some on wineandco.com at 49,25 euros
Ended up picking up the following:
- Les Carmes Haut Brion;
- Canon;
- Grand Puy Lacoste;
- Leoville Barton;
- Haut Bages Liberal;
- Laroque.
Might buy some others but pricing is dissuading me on a few at the moment. Also seems like LCBO has an unusually large amount of certain wines in comparison to usual. Rauzan Segla comes to mind.
I had interest in a few wines for verticals but will leave it for now. Pricing is keeping me at bay. $215 CAD for Leoville Poyferre en primeur seems insane to me.
I only picked up Les Carmes Haut Brion… there must be 10k+ bottles left in both 2021 and 2022. Maybe we’ll see them in the bin ends sale? LOL
Canon’s pricing for the Canadian market and the fact that there are still so many days after the release tells you everything about whether pricing was successful or not. Same with the quantity of Montrose still available.
At that price, why wouldn’t you wait…
Wait, what is the pricing? Canon at roughly $150 pre tax was one of the steals of this campaign or what am I missing?
From above:
‘$325 for Canon, $275 for LCHB, $340 Montrose, $625 for Figeac.’
I agree that Canon, Montrose, and LCHB seemed to be priced pretty reasonable at US first tranche.
Holy shit…crazy prices. Is that normal that Canadians have to pay 60% more than everybody else?
If they are paying in Canadian dollars, yes. ![]()
Is there much difference between the SAQ pricing and LCBO?
LCBO adds 70% to what ever price they get it for… So its great pricing vs US/secondary for DRC and Rousseau and not much else ![]()
They are almost identical for 2022 Futures. Generally, the SAQ is cheaper for a lot of stuff though.
I mean… who know what they will do. They almost always without certainty increase prices and anything new that comes from something like UGC will likely be even more expensive… its pretty madening.
2019 LCHB was 175 EP and the unsold bottles are in LCBO stores now for $350 a bottle.
Zyn and BSW from out west is usually much more favourable in terms of pricing. No doubt that LCBO will certainly increase pricing for everything.
Yeah, sure. But Canon at 325 translates to 245 US dollars or >60% more than the US pricing.
No… this year they are very close +/- $1… However I prefer LCBO vs SAQ.
Urged on by a while back by @HenryB, I ended up taking matters into my own hands to try to answer this question. Needless to say, I could not do the 2022 vintage, so I focused on the 2020s. I just posted my experience in a separate thread.
