Henry, I think you nailed it with the Les Carmes. Only 2 shops in the UK are still showing first tranche pricing and the rest are showing $130/btl or more, which seems about right given the Liv-ex bid of about $106, which I believe is wholesale pricing (I wonder what the ask is?).
Still a few shops in the US at around $115 per WS Pro.
thanks - CHB has been a pretty reliable purchase in recent years (e.g. fulfilling my criteria of ‘likely to get more expensive, therefore worth spending the money on now’). Starting to build a decent haul of 19/20/21, been tempted to pull the trigger on some 2016 but havent done it yet.
I told myself I was done buying Bordeaux after '16, but I recently picked up the '19 after reading the CT notes. It is still available in the states for a decent price too. Now I have '14/'15/'16/'19 and maybe '21. Btw, I love the '16 vintage in general, great fruit and acid. The HB is out of this world.
Nothing new here. Economy not in strong shape, an overpriced vintage with medium tier scores, and plenty of alternatives lurking. Keyword here is wait; if this is a vintage you do want to buy, you have plenty of time for the prices to correct.
I put together a buy list for myself, 30 bottles or less but have yet to buy. I will buy some low production wines and maybe 1-2 first growths but am otherwise frozen buying this vintage. I still think there is good wine to come from the 21’ vintage, just need to do a lot of research reviewing notes.
I am very curious to actually taste these wines. Ironically, I’m more “curious” about this vintage than I have been about any other in quite some time; the ongoing debate/spirited conversation will do that …
Reduced in pounds or dollars (or both)? This is probably more a reflection of the campaign sucking wind (shocker) than the dollar/euro or dollar/pound exchange rates (the dollar has strengthened over the last month but not that much).
