Bordeaux 2005 - 12 Years On. Blind tasted.

I don’t think Neal’s published his notes yet. Have just checked my records of the tasting and I gave it 15.5/20. The wine lacks lift and energy.

Thanks, Matt. I appreciate it. And on the Farr website, I see that JR only gave it 16/20. Such a polarizing wine. Did you score the Larcis Ducasse any higher?

What is her take on the vintage and her favourites…

My verbatim notes on Larcis:

Hints at juicy fruit. Palate then very dry. Tannin coarse, hacked finish. 14

I believe Jancis came away quite positive about the 2005s - although she called us merchants ‘curmudgeonly’ for our low scores. She makes an interesting point about a higher incidence of out of condition bottles than one might expect from a modern vintage, and especially from such expensive wines. The list of favourite wines in her article includes Petrus, Montrose, Segla, Meyney, Tour Blanche and Angelus - quite eclectic in terms of styles.
