Boete Cheval Rogue Reserve

On the way back from Big Sur we stopped at a fruit stand in Moss Landing. Next door in the liquor store they were doing a wine tasting of Boete wines (Carmel) and $1 oysters so we decided to poke our heads in and try it. I’ve never had anything from a Carmel winery and wasn’t really expecting much, but the 2006 Boete cheval Rogue Reserve was a pleasant surprise. A excellent wine that is a Bordeaux Blend - Cab Sauv (55%), Cab Franc(39%), and Merlot(6%). Nice nose of dark fruits, spice, and some earthiness. All follows through with a nice feel and good balanced finish. We ended up picking up a bottle and opened it last night. Very similar to our tasting a week and a half ago. Think I might need to pick up some more!

On a side note; Santa Cruz and Paso are know for making some great wines. Why is it that Carmel and Monterrey are not? Just too foggy to ripen grapes for the most part?
