Black Champagne?

Customer just asked for a “Black Champagne”. Asked if he meant the bottle/label or the wine. He said the wine. WTF?!?!?

Any ideas?

Champagne made from NOIR grapes?

Nah, he was talking about the color of the wine. I hope it’s not like this:

I used to know an a-hole that would order black champagne everywhere he went.

He meant diet coke.

A sparkling Shiraz?

I asked him if it was a sparkling RED as we have lots of those but he said “No, it was black…”

Friexenet?

Closest thing I can think of is a Black Velvet: half brut champagne, half Guiness Stout, served in a champagne flute. [dontknow.gif]

Chris, that was my first thought but he insisted the WINE, not the bottle was black. Obviously not something we are gonna sell but he got my curiosity going…

Rudy can make it for him. What vintage does he want?

Once you go black…

I have to ask if the requester spoke English as a primary language? Earlier this week, a couple of the Kenzo Winery staff brought in some visitors from Japan. After some time in the wine room, one of the visitors asked if I had any Jane Fonda. We went back and forth for about 3 minutes trying understand each other. After some discussion in Japanese with one of the Kenzo staff, the request was made for Gin Fandal. “Zinfandel” I asked? They all looked so relieved that I finally got my head out of my ass and we had a good laugh.

Yes, American kid maybe 25-30, surfer doooodish.

That explains it. He had the Black Velvet at a Huntington Beach Bar with some California Valley Girls and thinks it’s “Black Champagne.”

It’ll be a week before the sound of wind leaves his ears.
