Birthday Week Dinner #2: 2006 Fourrier Morey St Denis Clos Solon

After Monday’s dinner (HERE), I felt I needed to take it easy and have a light dinner of roast chicken legs with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. What to drink with this? Well, duh. Burgundy.

-2006 Fourrier Morey St Denis Clos Solon
I am really loving these 2006s and having a hard time keeping my hands off of them. Between Bachelet, Fourrier, Raphet and a few others, I’ve found them all to have a lovely sappy fruit that never gets too ripe, keeping a core of minerality and acidity that balances things out. And this wine was no different.

It offered beautiful, slightly sweet dark cherry and raspberry notes, with a core of earthy minerality and refreshing acidity. I opened this and left it standing in the Cave for about 2 hours before dinner, and it really changed, becoming darker and gaining weight and texture as it breathed. By dinner-time, it was more put-together, rounder, and more enjoyable, though still with that earthy coarseness I associate with MSD. Despite that, it had a purity that is a hallmark of Fourrier and that I love so much.

And oh, yeah, it went great with the meal.

Hey Michel, I’m not exactly sure what this means but the candles look right.

Happy birthday man.

It says “Even if the candles cost more than the cake”. Thanks Father Sax!
