Birth year for dad’s 75th - 1951 vintage

Giving myself some runway on this one. I know it was a rough vintage, but from my reading, seems was pretty good in Italy. I’m open to anything as long as it’s 1951. Was searching CT for tasting notes and looks like there have been some gems out there showing well relatively recently. Let me know what you have or if you have suggestions or recommendations for the vintage. Thanks!

I recommend you reach out to Jamie Wolff at Chambers Street Wines as he might be able to source something for you, or point you in the right direction.

edit: Disclaimer, I’ve reached out to Jamie in the past to source things.

This should be interesting, and definitely should not be DOA.

Also, paging @Mark_Golodetz . He always finds old stuff.

WHWC is a great retailer. That seems like the easy choice, IMO. Plus, you can grab something else since it’s so reasonably priced for the experience.

No clue how Rioja was in 1951 but many last forever

The 1951 Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour Private Reserve was legendary about 15 years ago. No idea if it is still alive, but a well stored bottle might be.

That was one of the gems i saw on CT. Notes from ‘23 indicate its still excellent, WOTN in 1 example.

There are three different 1951 CA Cabs coming up in the October Acker Sale- and from John Tilson’s cellar, so the provenance is as good as it gets.

Otherwise a very tough year to find good things- as others have suggested I would look to Italy or Spain, and for that go to Chambers St.

According to riojawine.com, 1951 was a “normal” vintage.

excellent, very good, good, normal and medium.
