Biondi Santi Brunello Il Greppo vs. Riserva?

Anyone know the real difference here, regarding quality of grapes, selection, aging, etc. Huge price difference between the two and wondering what the real qualitative distinction might be. Thanks!

Both the Riserva and the normale (Annata) are Il Greppo, that’s the name of the estate. The old vines go into the Riserva, the young vines go into the Rosso, and the normale gets what’s in between. I’ve had the Riserva twice and wish it weren’t so, but the price difference is justified. It is truly one of the world’s great wines. The Annata is a top-notch Brunello but doesn’t give you a window into what the Riserva can do.

OMIGOSH! I just looked up the price for their Riservas 2004 and 2006. [swoon.gif]
