An order of Billecart-Salmon wines were just delivered, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that bottles now include a unique identifier, with instructions to visit myorigin.billecart.com. Apparently this was introduced last year, but I hadn’t seen it on any bottles until today.
Really glad to see this after so many bottles of their rose have confounded me over the years. Hopefully the URLs remain somewhat static, as I plan to include them in my bottle notes on Cellar Tracker.
That’s a nice feature, though it would be even nicer still if this information were all clearly on the label (i.e. not in 6 point font and not etched in code onto the punt) and retailers could and would list it on their online listings.
At least for the types of bottles for which anyone would care about that information (i.e. not really necessary for Feuillatte blue label and other supermarket brands).
I inherited a case of BdB from previous stock, after taking over a new project. I looked up origin number from the back of the bottle. It sent me to a nice website. However, not exactly filling me in on the “secrets” of the cuvée. At least nothing overly unique. It lists the Crus. No surprises there. Usual suspects, Avize, Cramant, M-s-O, Chouilly. Gave dosage specifics, but nothing they couldn’t have printed on the bottle that’s so common now. As well is the dosage, total sugar, and vintages included. Not that out of the ordinary tech sheet information, imo
