In Bandol, Domaine Tempier made some great 1993s. I have fond memories of La Migoua and La Tourtine.
1993 was really lovely in MSR. Maybe mostly M
By JJ Prūm especially
I had that wine about 12 years ago and it was singing. I don’t doubt that it’s still drinking well.
bonus: you can buy 1993 HB (red and white) and 1993 LMHB online direct from the winery through Cave du Chateau. I bought two 1993 HB mags that way and they are pristine.
Thanks for all the replies! Great stuff
His goal is bottles from 93 for a reason . . .
I’m a big '93 Burg fan, we did a few 30 year retrospectives last year and almost all the wines showed well. Some are super-expensive, but also great showings from Lucien Boillot Cherbaudes, Michel Gaunoux Corton-Renardes, Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Drouhin Clos des MouchesJadot Clos St Jacques , Chevillon Chaignots.
Some good Cali choices mentioned. I thought the '93 Togni was possibly WOTN in a 16 year vertical.
Definitely some lovey wines from Burgundy and I agree about the Haut Brion. Also Prüm in particular made good wines in the Mosel. I’ve had lovely wines from Robert Weil and Fritz Haag as well. And a very good bottle of Figeac some years ago:-)
Oh, and the Magdelaine is lovely, in the same understated way as the Figeac!
One of the very best Bufgundies ever was 1993 Leroy Beaux Monts.
Not really a bargain.
I think he is saying buy 1993s by producer not blindly buy vintage, region, or variety.
Could be wrong.
this is pretty funny.
Try it this way:
- Filter: 1993
- Sort (Descending): Producer
Yes, '93 Burg both red and white are really good; I am always on the lookout for them. Napa cabs are also far from shabby…
1993 red burgs were fabulous. In California, the Togni Cab was really good.
Did not buy much 1993 white Burgs but years later I found some Ampeau Meursault Perrieres. They were fabulous, although I had my last one 10 years ago or so.
Two recent 1993 burgs.
Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot - fantastic bottle. Old school funk, good acidity and fully resolved tannins. I think this was my favorite wine last year.
Barthod Chambolle Veroilles - corked
Sadly bad corks were very common then across all regions, which maybe leads to the advice to buy more bottles than you want.
Good luck!
1993 Mondavi Reserve is quite nice and shouldn’t be too hard to find.
93 Calera Jensen pinot
93 MSR, as others have said; Prum, Zilliken, Von Schubert. Had a Von Schubert Herrenberg Eiswein last year that would have been my sweet WOTY had it not been for the crazy Sauternes dinner in December.
93 Lafon Monty was unbelievable. 93 Ramonet Monty was sadly tired, but I think a fresher bottle might have showed better. 93 DRC GE was still quite young and a touch unyielding. Should improve with some more time.
