“Italian Sub” is getting overlooked. Think good crusty bread, some mortadella, coppa, good sharp provolone, iceberg, sliced white onions, tomato if you want it, oregano, touch of olive oil and a generous splash of red wine vinegar. No mayo. That might be the one.
I just counted the T&C on my card and came up with 613.
This poll is clearly flawed as it is missing the most important category of sandwich, the breakfast sandwich.
If you do that, then you bring in the whole biscuit family into this.
No love for the humble meatloaf sandwich? For me, one of those foods that shines best in leftover (sandwich) form.
I used to live next to a guy named Ruben. I never saw him eat a Reuben, though.
Pastrami on seeded Rye, with deli mustard.

That’s what I have for lunch about 4 out of 5 work days per week.
The Press sandwich at the original Paseo. Can’t vouch for Un Bien, but the press is great.
the Portuguese (Porto, specifically) Francesinha is king of all sandwiches.
I voted for the po’boy, and had a very good shrimp one from a food truck earlier this week, but today’s General Muir hot pastrami on rye has me reconsidering my vote:
After seeing that photo I had to change my pants.
Bacon all the time~a BLT is great but really, tomatoes are seasonal and for the rest of the year they are pink cardboard.

If it’s Jufran Banana (ketchup) Sauce we might have to proclaim you an honorary Filipino. Btw, I’m from Pittsburgh, Heinz ketchup goes with everything. Who even says Catsup???
Are you guys still putting diced tomatoes on your hot-dogs?Dammit! I knew I should have said mustard.
And it’s tomato WEDGES John, not diced. Seriously man, what is the matter with you?
If it’s depicted on one of my Christmas ornaments IT MUST BE TRUE!!
Hot-dogs are supposed to have ketchup on them.

Au contraire mon frère, that’s the blood of the last guy who demanded ketchup in a Chicago hot dog stand.

Richard T r i m p i:Corey, it’s your poll so bias away. Try Googling “Best Sandwich in America” and the first 5 hits come up:
Adam Richman - Lists 10 sandwiches by region with a Philly Cheesesteak as a “wildcard”.
The 5 Best New Sandwiches in America 2016 | Bon Appetit - Low and behold, a cheesesteak is #3…from Chicago!
The 50 Best Sandwiches in America | Men’s Journal - Tony Luke’s cheesesteak is listed third
Best Sandwiches in the U.S. | Food & Wine - There at #9 is the Philly Cheesesteak with a Korean twist
Best Sandwiches in America 2016: Meet the winners - Not a “cheesesteak”, but a beef tongue version made this list.
Honorable mention to the Pork Sandwiches from DiNic’s and John’s Roast Pork, both having been recognized among the best Sandwiches in the US.
RT
DeNic’s (pork and broccoli rabe) is definitely a worthy competitor. Never had John’s. But I’m with Corey on the cheesesteaks that I’ve had, certainly those made with Cheeze Wiz (just gross) and/or bottom round, which is flavorless to me. I do like the onions, though, and I can see the textural lure.
I love cheesteaks but it’s a Philly speciality. Pittsburgh is a wasteland for good sandwiches.
Corey N.: Bruce Leiser_owitz:Flawed poll; no gyro:
Turn in your Jew card and get out.
There is nothing in the Terms & Conditions on the back of the card about HAVING to select pastrami as your favorite sandwich. I checked.
Bruce
That’s because you bought your card from the guy at the corner of Canal and Mott who sells them out of the trunk of his car, right next to the real rolexes.
if you had correctly spelled Reuben it would have won hands down

not a fan of Primanti Bros? Maybe that’s a tourist trap but I thought it captured the spirit of Pittsburgh well.
