Best Red and White Wines under Screwcap?

What are the very best white and red bottled wines available under screw cap?

I’m asking for a specific purpose where convenience is more important than exact varietal or any kind of pairing issues – will be for a camping trip and it will just be way easier to be able to easily open and close a couple bottles, especially if we don’t finish a bottle right away. Looking for stuff that is reasonably available in the US.

Appreciate any ideas!

Thank you.

The best white wine dollar for dollar under screwcap is the Dönnhoff Estate Riesling.

Ludes Thornicher is another great riesling under screwcap. McKinlay’s Willamette Valley is - imo - the greatest Pinot in the world under $25, and also happens to be bottled under screwcap.

Brian Loring’s wines are very nice.

And he’s been doing it since 2004.

Watch for some library wines on Berserkerday with wines that have been under screwcap for 10+ years…

You will be hard pressed to go past the Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay and the Felton Road Block 3 and Block 5 Pinot Noir.

New world wines under screw cap and made to very high standards

Giaconda Chardonnay and Hill of Grace are up there.

Gregory Patriat bottled his 2005 Chambertin, Grand Cru under screwcap at Jean-Claude Boisset. It drinks wonderfully today. Might be hard to find though, as will be Giaconda.

Thanks, Larry – and appreciate the mention (and reminder for me!) of Tercero being screwcap, Paul! Reminds me to bring along at least my bottle of 2014 White Hawk Syrah!

I’m a bit late to the party compared to @Brian_Loring -
I started 100% screwcap in 2006 . . .

Parum Leo Pinot.
Bonny Doon Le Cigare in better vintages.
Some Carlisle appellation Zins were under screwcap IIRC.
Bedrock Lulu.

the older Kelley Foxes under screw cap were always awesome. she switched to cork for everything though

Tyrrell’s Sémillon Single Vineyard HVD.

As many have recommended- look to Australia and New Zealand. +1 for Leeuwin.

Also, for camping, I’d recommend big bold wines that are young rather than subtle older vintages. Outdoors, next to a campfire, probably crappy drinking vessels- go for Shiraz with a screw cap!

Consider cans!

Field Recordings does great, easy drinking reds and whites in 500ml cans. Or used to, at least.

I’m sure there are others and I wish there were hundreds more. Glass is important for aging. For 99% of the rest, it sucks. Granted, I’m not sure aluminum is better on the whole, but it’s easier to take camping, at least.

Kyle,

The problem - no age ability with cans . . . And reduction tends to be a common problem…

Cheers

Look to Germany and Austria, thousands of sc bottles-
