Best online trusted sources for wine & spirits info - but not pro reviews

Obviously, WB is the best - it’s actually shocking how great the content is here when you search for something on google and a WB thread is at the top.

But I was googling a champagne producer and came across the US distributor site which was pretty impressive.

I’d love to see a list of lesser-known online sources that have similar depth of info. Some of the ones that have impressed me so far:

  1. Skurnik

  2. Grand Cru Selections

  3. Zev Rovine

  4. Been dabbling in Rum the past few years and Rum Ratings is a decent resource.

  5. Polaner

  6. Williams Selyem has an extensive list of their wines, harvest information, and wine making.

I’m sure there are dozens and I’m just starting to find them.

When you consider the totality of information and various ways to use it, how can you get better than cellartracker?

CT is amazing, but doesn’t have any depth of information about producers, how they operate, their history, etc.

If I wasn’t clear, I’m not looking for reviews of wines & spirits, but information about that producer or region or category.

Winehog is paid but an excellent resource.

nice! thank you

Our own WB Oliver McCrum wines is another excellent resource for Wine-Producer-Vineyard information.

Sounds like you are just asking for importer sites? I can’t think of sites that have the info you seek that are not winery or importer sites.

For natural wine there is of course wineterriors:

https://www.wineterroirs.com

For German wine there is Vom Boden and or course source | material. The German Wine Collection has a good website.

Lots of Burgundy importer sites as well.

I think you know about little wines. A really cool new business model where they want to create detailed profiles with videos on 100s of wineries:

i’m specifically asking for not just importer sites. but yes, a lot of importer sites will have this information.

the point of the thread was to find sources that weren’t as obvious or trade related.

little wine looks really cool!

I really love what Litte Wines are attempting to do. They are just getting started. I met with them when they came to NYC and I know I mentioned you when we were discussing wine and tech.

i may have been introduced to them by diana snowden a while ago. i should reach out. thanks for the reminder.

I talked to Christine, one of the founders of LittleWine about 18 months ago possible collab. Wow, they have really made some strides and it looks really promising.

Interesting to hear that. I guess it’s because you know enough of the posters?

I definitely check CT, but it’s not always useful because there are so many random people/palates posting reviews, it’s difficult to know how to evaluate. Just like any online source of reviews.

The wine boards are better when you know the people and can read through discussions. But of course not as comprehensive as CT.

wineterroirs is great for info. Some producers and importers are on insta and you can find lots of info there. I am generally skeptical about a wine review from someone I’m not familiar with, and that includes professional and/or prolific reviewers. @Rahsaan_M, I’m with you there. Sometimes, CT is very helpful, other times it’s a lot of words without much meaning because there’s no context/correlation with the situation or the scribe. I feel about whine boreds much the same way. Nothing compares with the old Thiese portfolio taste-before-you-buy but so it goes.

For those interested in the technical side of winemaking, the AWRI is a superb source of free information. https://www.awri.com.au/
