After the 1st time I went through the whole process, it took me (literally) about 30 seconds the next time. I think I saved a total of $10. For me the $120/hr rate makes me happy and is worth it, especially since I have a hard cap on the wine I can buy.
I would also caution. I just bought 4 gift cards this morning and 2 of 4 did not work. I contacted raise and they have already processed a refund, but it was a pain in the neck. I’ll probably stick to the 6% cash back cards next time. The 6% cash back cards are all purchased directly from wine.com by raise, so there is not the same risk of the code not working.
I had the same issue. If you use the chat help on raise they will fix the problem right away. Take a screen shot of the error message on wine.com and be ready to email it to them.
I tried the chat, no luck. Also, after I marked the card unusable I no longer have access to the code so I can’t even get a screen shot. Should have thought of that before but didn’t realize they’d hide the code. Now it just says “response pending,” in the place where the code information normally is.
Kurt, thanks for that. Maybe I’ll stick to the cash back cards from now on. I haven’t yet tried the discount cards I bought today, but the relatively few of those I bought previously all worked.
Max, I agree. If you want to skip the coupon hunting for the discount cards as not worth the extra time/hassle, especially with this latest issue, and just stick to the cash back cards, they are a piece of cake to buy and use quickly and easily, once you have your account set up and you’ve done it once. After that, it only takes maybe a minute each time, all told, and you’re getting the cards at 6 to maybe 9 percent off after Rakuten and depending on your credit card points or cash back. There is the downside of having to carry the unused balance to next time and not being able to threaten a chargeback on wdc, but I don’t see either of those as significant for in-stock purchases on wdc.
There are some sort of bonus cash back categories if you use an amex referral link when you apply. You get an extra 100% cash back bonus up to $200 on purchases at home depot, lowes, and some other stores. Here’s a link for the platinum card if you want it: http://refer.amex.us/KURTLBNmP?xl=cpm7
I was going to wait until I was ready to buy something to try and use them, but given this issue I went ahead and tried to add them to my wdc account and all the “discount” codes I bought this morning worked, so I’ll count my blessings…
Used the Amex $50 off $150 offer for wine access. I set up a new account and it gave me a $50 off welcome offer too, so had to add more to my cart to get over $150.
The Amex branded cards likely get the best/most deals, but their cobrands also get many, but IMO not the best ones from retailers like WA, WDC, TW. I have gotten Benchmark, Zachys, Morrells, LBW, FBW on cobrand. There’s a ton of junky wine offers ($50 off a $500 purchase at Darioush etc) too, that are unlikely to be of interest to people on this board.
I suspect many people here would be able to get the discounted Schwab cobrand Plat, and that IMO is an awesome deal. Note that Plat fees will be going up in July, so if you think you could use its bennies, there’s some value in getting it now, beyond wine deals through Amex Offers. That brokerage Plat is also offered on a couple other platforms - MS, Ameriprise, GSAM that I know of. Might be more.
RMN 20% off WDC on the app today. Can I use it again with another purchase today? I just combined it with a $50 off $150 and want to repeat it with a different coupon.
