Preparing for a trip (tropical storms willing) Labor Day week. G&Ts and beer are required, but of course wine is the third leg of the stool. Perusing the cellar got me wondering what others prefer at the beach. At the moment I’m understandably more white than red (Pinot Blanc, Tocai, Sauv Blanc, obligatory Chard for the mother-in-law). Reds are a Copain P2, lighter Sonoma Coast Pinot; am debating others.
Obviously a matter of personal opinion, but what’s your quintessential beach wine?
Adega de Moncao Vinho Verde Muralhas de Moncao Rose’ (effervescent) from Portugal–not that easy to find but a great summer picnic, patio or beach wine.
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or Albarino from Spain would be another choice.
Maybe a chilled Beaujolais Villages or Beaujolais Cru.
is this for sitting on the beach while the sun sets, or for meals at the beach?
Anyway, for the former (and maybe the latter), I’d include some bubbles. Perhaps a Prosecco or California sparkling. Not worth getting into specifics, because it’s what’s available to you.
We live 6 minutes from the beach so we keep a lot of beachy wines for the summer.
Chablis Chablis Chablis
Arnot-Roberts Trousseau
Liquid Farm Pink Crack
White field blends (more A-R, Bedrock etc.)
Southern Italian whites
and bubbly of course
