Best $10 Pinot I’ve ever had?

First of all, you probably can’t find this, is a New Zealand wine that doesn’t see much export.

That said, this drinks like a good $25 Pinot, reminds me a lot of some Santa Cruz mountains Pinot I’ve had in that price range actually.

Screw cap, poured two nights in a row at a lodge on Lake Taupo, 2022 Butterworth Layline Pinot, Martinborough. Here’s a description I found online which rings pretty true:

Dark purple red. Dense freshly picked raspberry and plum fruit aromas interwoven with cinnamon and cardamon spice with Te Muna’s rose petal overtone. A complex, savoury, mouth filling wine with dense dark fruits and cacao. The tannins are fine boned, yet persistent, combining with the pure line of acidity. The soils of Te Muna Terraces are deep, free-draining alluvial gravel, which are rich in minerals making it ideal for growing grapes. The climate is an extension of Martinborough and similar to Burgundy, being only slightly cooler due to higher altitude, but with long cool summers and low rainfall providing the optimum long ripening conditions for grapes.

I’m a big fan of Martinborough pinots.

WSPro suggests that the 2017 is available from one specialist store in the US, albeit at ~US$30.

Probably the only $10 Pinots I’ve had that have been good have been the our wines one from Franny beck and the Esmonin VdF.

agreed with Our wines from franny beck (not sure if any of the main line was ever that cheap but I didn’t buy any at there)

The our wines, I don’t want to say are hit and miss, as the bad ones were still worth more than I paid, but a few of the bottles really sang.

Yeah they definitely weren’t as good as the blue label but for $10 can’t complain.

I like Martinborough Pinot (on average more than Central Otago), but haven’t had this wine or producer.

That said, how do you get $10… looks like NZ$30 on their website?

Ah, that may be a “sale” price that I saw… Butterworth Layline Martinborough Pinot Noir 2022 | Buy NZ wine online | Black Market

The person serving it to us also said it was around $15NZD (a bit less than $10US)

I looked at CT, the only 10$ Pinot Noir I’ve seemed to enjoy was the 2017 Villa Wolf from Pfalz.
