Exactly. Just like in Commerce Corner, blasting someone’s offer is not welcomed. We are happy to take opinions but not at the risk of harming those who have made generous offers to the community.
I really liked this wine, and got a case of it. John Cabot drank it with me and got two cases for himself. I know Linda’s phones are hammered right now based on everybody getting voicemail, so I think they are doing just fine. Let’s keep it civil here, and if you have a bad comment to say about a wine, use Wine Talk, not here.
It’s not a question of moving on to better wines in the future. Everyone here who likes Oregon pinot at all has already had much better wines than this. What John Cabot didn’t tell you is that not only is he a winemaker, he makes Willamette Valley pinot from purchased fruit, which only further solidifies his opinion in my mind. Plus, he likes Belle Pente.
Now, I AM a friend of Linda’s and she’d be the first to tell you that I’ll also call a spade a spade (and you’ll find out for yourself if you stick around), so I’ll tell you what I told her the first time I tasted the wine. "It looks like pinot, smells like pinot and tastes like pinot. When most “pinot’ at this price barely tastes like wine, what more could a person ask for?”
Is the “Doggie Wine” DRC? Nope. Is it Domaine Serene? Nope, and that it doesn’t even begin to resemble that swill is just another benefit in my book. Is it even the Evesham Wood Willamette Valley? No, but it’s one-third the price. As far as I’m concerned, it’s better than John Thomas’ last edition of ACME, so I don’t know what your problem is.
Don’t like it? Don’t buy it, but to come in here with no history whatsoever and dump all over a wine that’s being offered at a deep discount (for those who don’t live in Portland) as a partial fundraiser for WB and as a benefit for our members AS PART OF OUR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION . . . well, that’s just a really shitty thing to do.
It’s been unanimously agreed that I’m an ass. Not a big deal, I can take it.
Like I said previously, I’ll put some tasting notes up next week with my opinion ( I think it smells like pinot… but that’s where it stops for me ).
Again… I’ll use wine talk in the future…
PS… I do like this site, just donated, and expect to be around for awhile, if not for the great conversation, then at least for the screaming wine deals.
That being said… feel free to call me on my bs… I’m not perfect, and am very opinionated… but can recognized when I’m wrong.
Now I really need to get back to work so I can afford to keep buying.
Um - the pinot link takes me to the 2008 Montinore in which defender Bob Wood proclaims his dog could make better wine - you may want to check the link
Linda Lindsey’s 2007 Rascal (interestingly enough, also a doggy wine - just look at the label) is built to sell for around $8 and, from a lesser and more difficult vintage, is a better wine at half the price.
So I finally made it work a bit ago, and giggled at what I walked into to. Jessica or “Jessifer” was on two lines, while our winemaker was at my desk waiting for line 3 to go off. They kind of gave me the look like, " so today you decide to horse around and come in late ?". We are having a great response and its pretty cool to finally be able to talk to the folks who so graciously share their knowledge daily on this board.
Not quite sure just how to address our newest member, Todd Merkel - other than to say, perhaps this wine was not your style, which is understandable as we all taste differently. However, some of your comments I feel were a bit on the rude and on the assumptive side - you have NO idea where the fruit comes from, how we produce this product and where it falls into the Oregon Pinot Category. It is indeed 100% Pinot Noir, and not a table wine. Todd, we have a policy, if you are not happy with our product we will happily either replace the bottle or refund what you paid for it… give us a call and let me know which works best for you.
My last comment to this, I was gone the last few days in meetings with our Distribution team for our annual planning meeting. Interestingly enough, Rascal Pinot Noir is the number ONE selling pinot by case in our area - not bad for a brand that is still a youngster… without going into details or specifics, I know that at least 250,000 times this year, someone reached in their wallet and made the decision to purchase Rascal, must be someone that likes it.
Cheers and welcome to the board
Linda
Hopefully we can get to our regularly scheduled program
Being ever the voice of reason here … I speak my mind honestly all the time. But a lot of delivering a review or critique rides on the tone. Calling a wine an abomination without further elaboration gives the impression of being purely bombastic or shocking, rather than meaningful, constructive criticism. I don’t have a problem with someone not liking a wine and wanting to elaborate on it … but I prefer greater explication than a single word. Why was it not varietally correct, in your mind? Was it flawed? Was it an oak bomb? Did it light on fire when you took a shot? That’s all I ask.
