Bob, You can play. Just to clarify, for question #5, I’m looking for the names of wineries (I am not a winery) that operate/have had their address on 10th Ave in McMinnville. I’m not looking for second labels or contract labels. I even give everyone a hint - Eyrie Vineyards is two doors down from me.

    Dundee Hills Vineyard, which originally sold fruit to Elk Cove and later to Rex Hill (Lynn Penner-Ash still works with this fruit). The vineyard was bought be the Goldschmidts in 1999.

  7. Who originally imported the Dijon Clones of Pinot Noir (113, 114 & 115) to the US? (5 points)
    Oregon State University - at the time, Davis’s license to import had expired, so OSU acquired a license and brought in the clones. Since then, the OSU license has expired and all plant material is held at Davis.

  8. What Oregon winery won best of show at the 1984 London International Wine Competition for both their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay? (5 points)
    Tualatin Vineyards for their 1980 Estate Pinot Noir and 1981 Chardonnay. John said this was 1982, and I agree with him, but the Tualatin website says 1984…

  9. What was the first certified Biodynamic vineyard in Oregon? (5 points)
    Cooper Mountain, 1999

  10. What is “Steamboat”? (5 points)
    Steamboat is an annual conference for Pinot Noir producers held after IPNC at the Steamboat Inn on the north fork of the Umpqua River.

Rick, thanks for putting this together! Apparently we don’t have too many Oregon scholars on the forum, huh? People talk tough, but when the tests come out…

I consider myself pretty versed in OR wine history, and I started through the quiz, had about 4 answers, and gave up on trying to complete it. After seeing the answers, I would’ve gotten only one right. Those were some REALLY tough questions.

I had a bunch of them right but some were pretty tricky - like the one about OSU and the clones. “Who” led me to believe we were talking about a person, so I came up with David Lett who I believe was the winery person who was involved - but what do I know? I know I was way off on the 95-pointer, assigning it to Archery Summit, but at least I knew about Doug’s Emmy.

It did help to happen to have been around here while these things were happening, as some of these events were pretty big deals at the time…really tough and enjoyable quiz, Rick! A trip down memory lane.
