I know it’s tough to curb unwanted behavior, but I really appreciate having a preview of the full offers the day before. It gives me time to do some research and helps me decide how much I might want to spend on purchases that are available on Preview Day vs. BerserkerDay. A tempting one-line preview might not turn out to be what I was hoping, by which point I may have passed on a Preview Day offer that is no longer available. That seems like a lose-lose (for me, and the Preview Day winery).
Yeah, will be a while for sales data, but Preview Day really killed this year, in particular.
NUMBERS:
Using the software metrics which has a built in data system, and since we used it last year, we again broke records, yup!!

There’s a thread for this —> BDXV (BD15) Purchase Tally - how long was your Walgreen's receipt?
We’ve tried that (this was the first time we tried it this way, actually) - I thought an hour pinned would be plenty, and it was not (though I was also distracted like crazy throughout) - I really think Newbiepalooza is the way to go, again, with the ONLY issue being WHEN we can have it - Fall is the best, late August, early September, but harvest always gets in the way and you never know when. There HAS to be a good time to do it!! I already have more than a dozen newbies waiting to try out next year!
I realize you are playing devil’s advocate here, but part of the decision making process was engagement, a big one…the coffee reseller had very little engagement even during the event, just taking orders, Jason makes his listing unbelievably fun, brings joy and laughter and joviality to the event. That’s for all to enjoy.
Yes, Brig and I noticed a few REALLY long offers - as I said in the newbie ‘training’ webinar, all the info you want to give can be spread out between the post and links to your website, which don’t take up space but allow for those who WANT to know more to do so. I noticed also that the more berserk offers definitely got hit hard this year with orders - must be the economy - whereas in prior years it seemed just a bit more evenly spread, obviously always favoring the berserk deals, just not as much as this year.
There are always deals in the auctions, few bidders so stuff goes way cheap - that’s why we try to keep telling people to check them out!!
Yes, I will be processing the video and can post it in the raffle thread once it’s uploaded to YouTube
Saunter was on Monopole Crü only
That’s the most insane/crazy time, so there’s a possibility we can do it that way, but what I mentioned above, to have the standalone Newbiepalooza event is one idea, and the OTHER idea, since the Newbies are primarily purchased by the core community here (as opposed to the fly-by buyers, whom I ALSO love lol) maybe Preview Day becomes Newbie Day as well??? That could work! More controlled for sure.
Yeah, love that about the software, even I used it!
By relying on our computer overlords, yes, there’s a way to have it digitally mastered next year!
I will figure out a way, have a few tricks I figured out this year that will help - in the end, it’s up to the honesty of the buyer and the seller, I can’t overreact like I did this year lol
I was replying in order and didn’t see this, but I just addressed it above, and I really think it could work well and not re-invent the wheel (to have all Newbies on Preview Day)
That would be a quick fix, the ‘other sellers’ with a list and maybe link to their websites for research?
Lastly, holy crap I love the quoting text of this software, that was so easy!
Not sure a one liner (even if accompanied by the tags) will work for the Newbies; probably would work best for sellers who have participated in multiple Bdays. I would prefer the current format, with its attendant risks. Was this year worse than prior years in terms of gun-jumping?
Brig:
Anyway to temporarily block the links? Almost like a spam or popup blocker. You can click but the system won’t open the window.
Preview Day becoming Newbie Day is actually a really good suggestion!
not without doing each one manually, and with tiny mom and pop shops as most of these newbies are, you don’t want to mess around with technology TOO much.
See my post above, introducing two concepts (or affirming those who suggested them) that should solve the problems with Newbies and Previews
I’m near 100% sure I’ll do Newbies on Preview Day next year - they will all get the chance to take the day, and can have purchases done that day…which allows for ‘repeat sellers’ to be all on BerserkerDay, seasoned by at least one prior successful BerserkerDay.
what percentage of BD offers are Berserker Businesses? given the importance of a)supporting the site and b)being available on preview day, the investment is great value. i know there is hesitance to making BB mandatory for participation but it would solve this problem and level the playing field.
Congrats on a well done BD!
I realize the logistics of this are impossible, but a Newbie sampler - mixed case of 6-12 different wines from the new wineries would be just plain neat.
My Capital One card notes “expected transactions”. I have a couple wineries in there for Jan. 27.
Does that mean that Berserker Business sellers lose their one day advantage? I’ve done almost all my purchases on the Early Purchase day, with plenty of time to do research.
Seems like some folks may have joined GCC/MC since last year

maybe Preview Day becomes Newbie Day as well?
I think this is a good idea. While giving one of the key benefits of being a Berserker Business away may keep some newbies from signing up in year one, they will have to sign up in year two to get the benefit of two days of sales and will have experienced how that can help them.

Not at all - guessing all GCC/MC members have ample time on Preview Day to make their purchases, versus the craziness of BerserkerDay. This would give time to do the early shopping for those groups, plus ample time to look at, and buy from, Newbies! I could make all Newbies eligible for the Preview Day Early Purchase offers, just to be fair to all. I really think it could work - seems like there’s enough time on Preview Day for 15 (ish) Newbies and the 60 (ish) BerserkerBusinesses, yeah?

they will have to sign up in year two to get the benefit of two days of sales and will have experienced how that can help them.
They won’t ’have to’ but will have a clear idea of how it might benefit them after selling on Preview Day the year prior (assuming they make the cut)
Speaking of ‘cuts’, anyone who wants to be part of the ‘committee’ for BD16 reach out to me privately - I try to stay out of the decision making process as I’m the one who has to deliver the bad news to those who don’t make it. Some who weren’t in this year might have a chance next year - do let me know if you want to push a former seller back into consideration for the committee (like apparently the jerky purveyor). This is for you all, so be a part if you want, happy to have you!
I was impressed with the discounts on my specific purchases from Liquid Farm, Maison Harbour, and Bougetz. 36 bottles in total - 12 from each.
Wondering if this is a solution in need of a problem? How many offers were sold out early because people bought from the preview?
I had a great time. Thanks to @ToddFrench and everyone else behind the scenes that made it happen. I could offer feedback, but it would all be minor nitpicks. Really I think that the quirks are part of what make Berserker Day special versus a generic online store sale.
I love the interaction with sellers and the variety of items on offer, and the differences in the way that they are offered. I know some people above were complaining about the offers not being concise enough, but in my opinion the stories, photos, and different configurations of offers are part of the fun.
As others have said- I also make most of my purchases on Preview Day so IMHO it is SO SO Advantageous to be a BB
