Berry Brothers & Rudd

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I was interested to see that Berry Brothers has opened a retail store in DC with apparent plans to open elsewhere in the future. Not the easiest time to open a new wine retail
business, but they have been at this longer than anyone. I always enjoyed visiting their main London location when I lived in the UK.

Just made my first purchase there.
Very reasonable shipping and no sales tax on wine purchases in DC

Is this new? Thought it was 10%?

this is true from everywhere I have purchased in DC.
Shipping out of state

I thought there was tax if you shipped to Florida. Where are you shipping to?

Ahhh, of course.

Prices seemed pretty high.

My father-in-law also thinks so. His reply below:

“One of my friends was the first manager of their store in Terminal 4 at Heathrow. He said that it was astonishing how much money travelers were willing to spend on their way home out of the UK. Berry Bros has teriffic contacts and a terrific list but their prices are not exactly low. They took over UK representation of my favorite white Burgundy, Vincent Dancer, and doubled the price.”

I did buy some pretty cool Armagnac there, though.

I don’t suppose they offer free transfers and VAT-free pickup at the DC store for in-bond BBX purchases. That would be cool. :berserker:

That Heathrow store was amazing for an airport. I recall one time they had an Armagnac display with every year back to the war. My birth year was too expensive, so I settled for the year I graduated.

We were there Tuesday at their new store for a Champagne Rare and Caviar tasting. Its a very pretty store. Their focus seems to be on getting private clients, but they do have deeper ties to Bordeaux and Champagne than American stores which may be helpful for some people. Prices as you said are… iffy, but where else can I get a pristine 3L of 1959 Lafite direct from the Chateau?

Care to share what it was?

Paul, Yes, to Florida.
Patrick, Domaine Vougeraie Bonnes Mares 2008 and 2009 one bottle each

They had huge vertical of the briat Armagnac
