Bernard Moreau question

When I added a recent purchase of the Bernard Moreau & Fils Bourgogne Blanc to CT I was surprised to see a label there (on the website) totally different from my bottle (and all the ones I’ve bought or drunk in the past. I wonder if the other label is the same wine or is it even the same producer? Pictured below are the mystery label on the left and the familiar Moreau label on the right.

Thanks in advance.

The winemaker Benoit Moreau departed in 2020 to set up his own shop, taking some vineyards with him in the process. Maybe that‘s the reason … Benoit Moreau wines are supposed to be good (they sure are expensive and not easy to source).

Thanks for chiming in but I don’t think it’s that. Benoit’s label is very different:

Yes, I have a couple of those … What I meant: new logo/labels for Bernard after the split-up?

There is another Domaine Bernard Moreau in the Maconnais, not just the one in Chassagne. The label on the left is for the one in the Maconnais. Undoubtedly confusing.

What do you guys think of his Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Cardeuse (Rouge)? I’m just starting to explore Burgundy and picked some of this up form someone who is thinning his cellar.

To be fair, Domaine Bernard Moreau is different than Bernard Moreau et Fils. Still a bit confusing.

thread drift, but I’m a fan of this bottling. the 17 was really special last month although I found the 18 quite a bit more monolithic. Enjoy your bottles and post a note. If you don’t like them I’ll happily buy them from you

Benoit was the vineyard manager at Bernard Moreau. I believe Alex Moreau was the winemaker

Love it. Though I’m now jaded by the price. Stuff used to be a steal, but is arguably the most interesting red made in Chassagne (for me)

I like Niellon for power, Ramonet for finesse, and Moreau as a combo of both.

Ramonet Boudriotte probably tops for me.

where did he take them?

Did he move to The Island of Benoit Moreau?

To another level, if you choose to trust certain commentators, also pricewise.

Appearances can be deceiving, but I don‘t see those gentlemen as potential chard/pinot lovers. I would rather go with an amarone, or a nice 18% zin.

I like it very much.

Yes. There were two brothers running the domaine - my understanding is like yours about their role. Benoit went and formed his own estate and Alex is running Bernard Moreau (the name of their father as I understand it).

A friend served Moreau’s 2019 village Chassagne last night, which outperformed the appellation. Wish I had some.
