The von Hövel was a non-vineyard designate? Did they blend Hütte and Scharzhofberger?

David,

based on Oberemenniger Euchariusberg, Krettnacher Katzenbuckel, Krettnacher Altenberg, Oberemmeler Karlsberg und Niedermenniger Sonnenberg.

BTW, I strongly recommend you Schloss Lieser.

P.S. just for the record, the Kabinett Leistenberg from Dönnhoff didn´t arrive in time. Still on its way to Berlin. And the estate Keller muddle the deadline.

I already had the Lieser on order. Now to find the von Hövel.

Buy also “Scharzhofberger” from von Hövel. I was thrilled.

Von Hovel have been on the up for the last few years. IMHO.

Thanks Martin. Always interested to see these results.

just for the record, the winner last year Weiser-Künstler “Ellergrub” was totally closed yesterday. Despite the fact that I opened the bottles the night before.

The Richter Himmelreich Auslese 2015 has hit the Norwegian shelves at a favorable price. Any views?

I would say you can buy blind anything from Max Ferd. Richter in 2015.

OK, at USD 25 I will pick up a couple even though Auslese is not my preferred style - or rather, they take too long time to get to the level of complexity they deserve for drinking.

Auslese is also not my cup of tea. But in 2015 you have a lot of acidity which means you have freshness, drive and drinking pleasure also in Auslese.

In addition the 2015s are quite ready/open right now surprisingly.

Just logged in, what a wonderful list. Schloss Lieser is up there…great!

Always a great data point and event, Martin. Thanks for organizing and posting it.
I remember tasting the Clemens Busch at the Mainzer Weinboerse and being thrilled by its 10.7 g/l acidity with fantastic purity and “real” kabinett must weight; shtuff is positively electric. That will be one to look out for when I offer it later this summer in the US.
While I enjoy reading about such events and am glad that you’ve taken the initiative to organize such a tasting, I do have some misgivings about “top 10 lists” as I think that it is impossible to capture the differences in house style and even what style of Kabinett from a stripped down numerical hierarchy. Number scores can do similarly, but usually there is a review to accompany with descriptors etc. Then there is the reality that only so many bottlings can be included. A consumer might read this, and focus on bottles rated 1-10, or something of the sort, which would seem a bit foolish. Yes Lieser’s Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kab is great in '15 (as it was in '14), but neither his Juffer Kab nor Graacher Himmelreich Kab are featured.
It would be wonderful to be able to include some kind of reviews of each wine from “important” participants, as that would give deeper context and definition as to what and why, as well as give consumers a global vision of the vintage and its qualities.
Nonetheless, from one guy who stretches out to make such awesome events happen to another, thank you and good show man!!!

Robert,

I was standing next to you when you tasted the Kabinett from Clemens Busch at Mainzer Weinbörse. [popcorn.gif]

I unterstand your argument, BUT there will be maybe an article from David Schildknecht. Definitely an article by Lars Carlberg in the coming days @ http://www.larscarlberg.com

Also an big article in german by the swiss magazine WEINWISSER

So, there will be some notes, reflections on the wines and vintage.

Bottom line, buy MOSEL 2015, as there are wonderful wines whether is ranked 1st or 42th place. Or as I say to my friends trust your palate.

in vino veritas

Good to hear, Martin! The articles sound promising, exactly the kind of detail i’m talking about.
How funny is it that we tasted side by side and had no idea who the other guy was…!
