Bera Moscato d'Asti

Consistently one of my favorite summer drinks. A bit sweet, a bit sparkly, but more complex than the general run of Moscato d’Astis.

Fun, but not to the point of embarassment

Agreed. One of the best Moscato d’Asti out there. Excellent producer. If you haven’t tried their Bianco, seek it out. It is a blend of Cortese, Arneis, Sauvignon and I think Favorita (in some vintages). Stylish and crisp. On the west coast it is usually about $15-$18 retail.

I posted a note last year stating this as THE top Moscato D’Asti I had all last year based on precisely your point – it had more complexity and verve than the usual Moscatos.

You should try Saracco. I think they are really the best of what I have tasted.

Also one of the very top producers is Cascina Fonda. They make a later harvest version as well.

Thanks for the recommendation. I saw a few different Bera names out there, so can someone confirm that this wine is the one everyone is speaking of?

There is nothing quite like a good Moscato d’Asti that is young and fresh. I have had my share of flat/cooked Moscatos over the years but I think that was more due to poor handling/shipping conditions than anything else.

Except for a nice MLT: a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They’re so perky, I love that.

@Chris – this is indeed the one and their “Su Reimond” Moscato D"Asti is even BETTER as it is a rare single vineyard Moscato that personally finally convinced me that single vineyard wines are indeed a step above.

I’ve enjoyed Vajra’s moscato as well as the Bera. The Vajra’s good with a few years on it if you cellar it yourself.

Pretty sure Jay is referencing Vittorio Bera which is a Dressner import. Great wine that I worked with a few years ago. Their Barbera is also fantastic.

Yes, that is correct. This wine:

At $20 it’s a delightful bargain.

Nice call Jay. Bought some after the March Dressner/Chambers tasting. Really enjoy her Barbera too.

You guys have me totally confused now. The CT link I provided is to “Vittorio Bera,” so is that right or is it wrong?

Maybe this is easier: is this the correct wine? If so, it’s available at a local shop for $15 and I’ll go buy some. Thanks!

That label is Vittorio. Just be advised this is vintage stuff and Moscato is something to drink very fresh, imho. WX has the '10 and the current release is '11.
