Balanced, non fruit bomb cabernets?

Being from Oz, I would venture Woodlands, Fraser Gallop, Moss Wood and Voyager from Margaret River, and Yarra Yering, St Huberts and Yeringberg from the Yarra Valley. Many people rate the Yarra Valley as Australia’s best cabernet area.

Ridge, Frog, and Montelena for me. Named earlier, just supporting the endorsement.

I’m a fan of Corison and Ridge. Or Bordeaux. If you want to veer away a little from Cab, try Rioja from Spain (tempranillo), chateauneuf du pape (Grenache) southern Rhône or wines from northern Rhône (Syrah) like St Joseph, Hermitage and Cote-Rotie. Given what you’re describing, you will probably like these.
