Austin TX Wine Stores

Will be visiting Austin, TX this weekend, and will likely need to kill some time. I know there was a thread on this over at Ebob, but I no longer have access. I’m most interested in bdx and rhone, but I’m becoming more interested in Italian as well.
I’m familiar with Austin Wine Merchant on 6th, and will be visiting there as well, but any other recs would be appreciated.

Any restaurants with decent “mature” bottles on the list?

thx

I do love Austin Wine Merchant. The store has two long walls and one of them is Burgundy. Starts with Macon at the south end of that wall, ends with Chablis at the north end, and all the appellations are laid out in between. Without regard to color or price, just according to geography. How many stores would even know the geography? And they keep the temperature low enough as well. Sorry, can’t help you with other Austin stores.

I haven’t been to one in Austin yet but Spec’s has expanded into Austin and they tend to have a lot of choices to browse:

The Spec’s down South off Brodie lane has some nice wines.

There are not any restaurants with decent “mature” bottles on the list. Most of the restaurants have recent releases marked up for three times the retail price (thanks to the three-tier system but I digress). Buy a couple of nice bottles and check the Austin BYOB list in the BYOB section.

Max’s Wine Dive has a decent list and is one of the trendy places. Only 1.5 mark-up even though they say their prices are based on retail. http://www.maxswinedive.com/austin/wine-list/index.php
