Berserker Auction Lot - A case of Walter Scott Unicorns! Actually 13 bottles… Because Math is Hard

$ Value – Priceless :unicorn: :unicorn::unicorn: :unicorn:

For the BD16 Auction to support the Berserker forum and community, we have sifted through our library to fins wines that are so rare that you will most likely never see these out in the world. One off’s from epic vineyards, collaborations, old vines that no longer exist. All gathered for an epic case of 12 bottles.

The Walter Scott Unicorn Case will include one 750ml bottle each of the following:

:star: 2011 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Holstein Vineyard, Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley
Allen Holstein planted the Drouhin Estate vineyard in the Dundee hills and around the same time planted his home vineyard. Only 75 cases were bottled from this epic old vine site.

:star: 2012 Walter Scott Chardonnay, Vojtilla Vineyard, Chehalem Mountains, Willamette Valley
1 acre of 1990 vine planted from the same vine stock at the famed Seven Springs vineyard. Tucked in Parrett Mountain in the Vojtilla’s front yard manicured as precisely as a bonsai tree. 50 cases bottled.

:star: 2012 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Dumb Ox Block, Eola Hills Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
Single block of un-grafted Pommard planted in 1994. The block, nicknamed Dumb Ox, was named after Thomas Aquinas, a theologian philosopher known as both “brilliant” and “enigmatic”, Just like the few Pinots we were able to make from this site before the vines were pulled out.

:star: 2013 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Julia’s Block, Bieze Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
A block of heritage Pommard Clone planted on the fence line of Seven Springs. Only bottled one year, 25 cases produced. One of the best Walter Scott wines of the vintage.

:star: 2014 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Clos des Oiseaux Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
2.8 acres of mixed clone block that Ken farmed personally with the support of Stirling Fox. The site sits between X Novo and the Cristom Jesse block in arguably the best neighborhood in the Valley. 275 cases bottled.

:star: 2015 Walter Scott Chardonnay, Les Fleurs, Roserock Vineyard, Eola Hills Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
For one vintage we had access to 20-year-old vines from Roserock Vineyard sitting at 900 feet in elevation on the spine of the Eola-Amity Hills. 50 cases produced.

:star: 2015 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Dubay Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
A 3-acre block of mixed clones, planted in 1990 tucked up on a super steep slope on the east side of the Eola-Amity Hills. 75 cases bottled.

:star: 2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay, Bunker Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley
Epic 5-acre block of 1990 plantings that came from the same plant stock as Seven Springs Vineyard. The owner of the huge house wanted a vineyard for their front yard and all that was left was Chardonnay vines. 130 cases made.

:star: 2018 Walter Scott Chardonnay, Viticole Cuvee, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley
Crazy bottling of Seven Springs and X novo vineyards blended for the 2018 Viticole Cuvee. 75 cases bottled and sold through the Viticole Membership.

:star: 2019 Walter Scott Chardonnay, ROCK SALT, Willamette Valley
A single 350-liter barrel bottled for its mineral, salty quality. Freedom Hill Vineyard with extended lees contact at 16 months in barrel and 2 months in tank. 37 cases bottled.

:star: 2021 Walter Scott Passetoutgrains, Arlyn Vineyard, Chehalem Mountains, Willamette Valley
Pinot Noir and Gamay noir co-fermented in the traditional method. The last year the Gamay was in production at Arlyn Vineyard before it was removed due to disease. 75 cases produced.

:star: Walter Scott 2016 X Novo Chardonnay
By request from @Mark_Y because, come to find out, there’s actually 12 bottles in a case, not 11. Huh, who knew…

Ken said make it a Baker’s Dozen!

I don’t know Ken but I like him already. He tossed in this real Unicorn to make it 13 bottles. He’s gone Berserker!

:star: 2015 Walter Scott Pinot Noir, Los Muertos, Eola-Amity Hills
A blend of three old vine, un-grafted vineyard blocks, roughly 30% each of Seven Springs (planted in 1983), Eola Springs Dumb Ox (planted in 1994) and Eola Springs St. Augustine (planted in 1982). All three blocks are Pommard clone and all were taken out in the year after this wine was made due to phylloxera.
