About the Pinot Noir

David follows an estate-type model for Pinot from the Cortell-Rose Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley, using all 6 clones/blocks and exploring three distinct expressions of terroir. Starting in 2021, David started crafting a Marie-Paule Reserve as a limited selection of the 5 best barrels of the vintage. The Marie-Paule Pinot is a cuvée blend of destemmed and whole cluster fermentations.

Compare and contrast these three vintages-- The 2021 received 93pts./Editors’ Choice, the 2022 has 96 points, and the 2023 is receiving great feedback from WB and other clients. The 2021 vintage is 13.2% ABV, and the 2022 13.1% ABV. Both show elegance, finesse and structure with red fruit, savory/garrigue spice notes, well-knit tannins and a great finish. Drink 2024 to 2034 and beyond.

Thanks for perusing the auction site folks! I love participating on the Board and giving back to this community. This year I am offering for bid three Reserve Pinot Noirs from 2021, 2022 and 2023. Shipping is included. Cheers, David, Sun Break Wines, WB handle: @David_Patte

Made from a selection of our five best barrels, these cuvees are typically a blend of 2 barrels from whole cluster fermentations and 3 destemmed. From the Cortell-Rose Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley (organic practices, owned by the viticulturist for Antica Terra, Seven Springs, Medici and many other great vineyards). 120-ish cases produced for each vintage. Drink now to 2032+

2021 Marie-Paule Reserve, 13.2% ABV, $55 SRP: 93pts./Editors’ Choice (Wine Enthusiast): “…blackberry-fruit aroma takes a back seat in blackness to a black pepper and resin note that reminded me of India ink… with flavors of raspberry and dark plum blending together with lemon drops and a mild banana note that made me hungry for fried plantains.” MICHAEL ALBERTY, WE, Jan. 2023

2022 Marie-Paule Reserve, 13.2% ABV, $75 SRP: 96pts./Editor’s Choice (International Wine Report): “…more rich and brooding than its siblings, but still light on its feet, it pops with notes of mountain blueberries, a touch of rhubarb, red licorice, and forest underbrush. Elegant and wonderfully balanced, it sports sweet tannins, perfect levels of acidity, and a broad mouthfeel.” Jeremy Young, May 2024

2023 Marie-Paule Reserve, 13.0% ABV, $55 SRP Too early for reviews. “Another elegant vintage, light on her feet, highly aromatic with notes of rose petal, cedar and black raspberry. Showcases bright black cherry, blackberry bramble and white pepper savory flavors. Zingy but smooth finish.” David Patte, wine maker and owner, Sun Break Wines
