Riesling Brut 2022 Tradition from Griesel & Compagnie, Hessische Bergstrasse $49
The grapes are hand-harvested. The base wine ferments in neutral oak and stainless steel; both fermentation, alcoholic, and malolactic, are spontaneous. After the tirage, the Sekt stays in the bottle for 21 months before disgorgement. The Riesling Brut also includes 10% Reserve Perpetuelle and has a dosage of 5 g/L.
The style is slightly oxidative, bringing apple and pear aromas and salinity on the palate. The phenols on the palate are present due to the hot year and granite soil the 30-year-old vines grow on.
Riesling Schlossberg 2021 (trocken), Single Vineyard from Weingut Werther Windisch, Rheinhessen $49
The grapes of this single-vineyard Riesling are farmed organically at the vineyard, Harxheimer Schlossberg. Fermented in concrete and spontaneously, it is dry and has aromas of summer rain, freshly cut grass, and yellow stone fruit. Great balance and intensity.
Riesling Ayler Kupp Kabinett 2002, Single Vineyard from Weingut Margarethenhof, Mosel/Saar $55
This is typicity pure! A text book Kabinett! Fermented in stainless steel. You can enjoy it now but it also brings incredible aging potential. Kabinett is the first step of the Predicate System and can only be used for off-dry or sweet wines.
Kabinett wines are usually off-dry or sweet. As of this coming year, you can not produce a dry Kabinett or any other predicate wines. A predicate wine has to have residual sugar. In addition to that, you won’t find a Village Kabinett. Only an Estate/Gutswein or Single Vineyard/Lagenwein Kabinett.
