Atlanta

At $20 it better be enthusiastically welcomed…

In a restaurant that provides outstanding food and service, and perfectly acceptable stemware, I consider a $20 corkage fee completely reasonable. YMMV.

IMHO, $20 is acceptable but on the upper end of the range. Herein lies another demerit point for Craft. While they have a very nice wine list, I find it not so nicely priced from the consumer’s perspective. But corkage is $25. I’ve always felt a bit like a hostage with whichever route I chose.

Headed to Serenbe for a couple days. Does anyone know what the wine lists are like at the Farmhouse and The Hil? Also what corkage is at either (yeah, I could call, but it’s more fun to hassle y’all)?

When I was there it was BYO…but that was a while ago (a few year)…no idea about list or corkage. Just call you slacker.

Must I do all the work around here! [tease.gif]

Okay, The Farmhouse is $10 corkage. The Hil isn’t open today, but The Farmhouse folks think The Hil is $20.

Went to Rosa Mexicana and didn’t get charged corkage. I would also bring stems if you bring anything above average as they are pretty piss pour. Also expect to do all the work yourself (which in my opinion is fine, and preferred). I can’t say for sure that zero corkage is their policy just that we didn’t get charged . . . things got a little disorganized at the end of the evening. I blamed Ken Katz! While I am mentioning your name Ken, have we mentioned if there are any fee at your restaurants?

At Peter Chang’s last night they wanted to charge $10 per bottle. Of course if you go with Don, who has only been 5 times since they opened, it was waved! The stem ware it sub-par so I would still recommend bringing your own. But the food is a clear step up from Tasty China.

Okay Atlantans…I need to find the biggest restaurant selection of wines from Spain (prefer a good by the glass representation, though by the bottle also helps). Iberian Pig is my leader right now, but please shout-out with other suggestions. Thanks

With Fuego and Cuerno gone, Iberian Pig will be hard to beat. The only candidate I can think of…

Barcelona is set to open soon if it already hasn’t. I know they have been buying up a lot of Spanish wines.

While not gigantic, Empire State South has an admirable collection of Spanish wines (just over a dozen- red and white combined). Included are a couple of nice wines from Lopez de Heredia and a few cool whites rarely seen on other local wine lists.

From the Barcelona website: “Coming Soon!
Barcelona Wine Bar is opening
in Atlanta, GA this Fall.”

Good catch. Overall, the Empire State list is one of the best around town. From Spain? One cava, five whites, eight reds…

I think the “this Fall” was from last year and they are a little behind schedule. I could be mistaken, but I can’t understand why they would be purchasing any wine if they weren’t opening for nine months?

That’s how I read it.

and they are a little behind schedule.

Both on opening and on updating thier website.

Where’s their Atlanta site?

$25 waived for all Berserkers who pm me. Decent not great stems. neener. Sorry, I missed this post. Thanks for the hospitality that night John.( And Michael too!) I know nothing about Barcelona, though…

Sorry for the late reply. SWMBO and I went down there in late November. They charged us $10 at the Farmhouse and waived corkage at the Hil. They really fucked up an appetizer (crab fritters had fish mousseline base that still had bones in it), so I suspect Chef Hilary told them to waive it. She was very nice when she came out to explain that one of her sous chefs had mixed the wrong batch of fish (the one WITH the bones, not the ones WITHOUT the bones) into the fritter batter).

The place is in East Egypt, but I really liked the food. Service was also surprisingly good.

Thanks. We spent New Years down there. Very relaxing without a long drive. The Farmhouse was in fact $10 per bottle. While The Hil’s policy is $20 per, they only charged us $20 for a total of 3 bottles. Food at both was good, but The Hil was really a big step in front; though the two realy have different “themes”, so probably unfair to compare directly.

Not BYOB related, but Empire State South is having a multi-winemaker Austrian/German Terry Thiese / Michael Skurnik event Wednesday night.

Leitz, Hirsch, Bründlmayer, Nikaihof, … plus seven food courses. $110++
