We will be in Athens for a few nights this summer on a family trip with our three teenagers. They are well-traveled and will eat anything. My wife and I are not looking for Michelin spots (this time around anyway). Any good recommendations for the Plaka neighborhood? I know there are a lot of spots from which to choose, but any good recs would be much appreciated. Good wine a bonus, obviously.
Not much help on sit down restaurant but we had great Gyro from a couple of small stalls while walking around. They’re probably all equally good.
Also not a meal, but (just outside the Plaka boundaries) check out Alchemist Cafe for coffee and some awesome pastries
Oinoscent has to be one of my favorite wine bars in the world

DItto Oinoscent. (Kostas is a homie.) And Vintage is also great.
Nolan would be my top dining spot in that general area. I usually go once / year. Yes, Michelin-y. But smartly casual and really good.
For street eats : Tylixto Greek Wrap. (Be prepared to wait.) Kostas souvlaki as well

Reviving this in case anyone has any Athens recs…
We were in Athens/Greece last September. Ate here in Plaka. Maybe not top gourmet meal, but good food and lively atmosphere.

Psaras Tavern is excellent for classic cuisine. There’s a sheltered rooftop terrace that affords great views. Service is mature and not fussy.
Vintage Wine Bar is excellent too. Hundreds of things available under Coravin.
We also ate at the rooftop restaurant of the Marriott hotel at Syntagma Square, the Grande Bretagne. Great view of the Acropolis, especially at night.
Had a great time at the rooftop of Anafiotika Cafe. Food was solid classic Greek, not amazing, but the atmosphere and views of the city more than made up for it. It might not be technically in the Plaka but it’s a few minutes walk away. The whole area by the restaurant is other restaurants/shops on steps leading up with a great vibe.

Vintage Athens closed earlier this year. Moved inventory to Cyprus location.
Look for the places where there are locals eating.
And avoid the places with the person holding menus and pressuring every person walking by to come in
Holds true almost anywhere .
Best meal of our trip was at Zefiros in Pireas.
