Apsara Cab Release

Hit my inbox today.

The 2014 Apsara Cabernet Sauvignons are here, and this vintage is one not to be missed.

This was a ‘classic’ year for Napa Valley. A long, warm summer with no prolonged cool periods or rainfall, provided the perfect weather for growing grapes. While we had relatively small yields, the fruit that came in, was nothing short of spectacular.

That’s why you shouldn’t hesitate to order! To purchase and for more information on each offering follow the links below:

Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2014
$ 80.00

A single vineyard, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with complex aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and briar, and a hint of Sierra pine. Aged 18 months in 75% new French Oak barrels, silky tannins frame the body of this wine, offering a focused palate of ripe blackberries, freshly ground nutmeg and cedar following through into smashed graphite cassis, cocoa and roasted espresso bean. This Cabernet is an intense, yet elegant sip that will linger on your tastebuds long after the last drop has gone. There’s no need to wait before enjoying this one but we’re excited to see how it develops with cellaring.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014
$ 70.00

Combining fruit from vineyards in St Helena and Calistoga, this Cabernet, is truly Napa Valley through and through. Deep ruby in the glass, with expressive aromatics of licorice, tobacco leaf and crushed red cherries. On the palate; a sumptuous cascade of cassis, dark fruits and fragrant Darjeeling tea surrounded by nuanced notes of cleansing white sage, cigar box and crushed clove. This wine has an elegant yet powerful body with beautifully balanced acidity and rich, enduring tannins. Utterly delicious.

Shipping begins in mid-late October, weather dependent, and we will notify you when your order is ready to ship.

We happily welcome visitors, so don’t hesitate to stop by and taste with us on your next trip to Napa. Till then, please enjoy our latest offering!
Cheers to you!

Aspara? Hopefully their winemaker isn’t named Gus.

Haven’t had the cab, but enjoyed the syrah quite a bit.

Doesn’t Maybach make a wine called Amoenus? Or did I spell it wrong?

Same vineyard, I believe.

I always like Robin’s Cabernets. Reasonably good value too.

Agreed. I’ll be buying.

Uhm,…fairly new label.

Any info.

I found info on the winemaker though.

Nevermind.

Thought I would jump in, Apsara Cellars is a wine project that I’ve been making since 2010, a year after I settled down in this fine part of the country. I had spent the previous four years flip-flopping between working harvests in the northern and southern hemispheres, Marlborough, Burgundy, Barossa and Provence and was lucky enough to intern with Thomas Brown up at Outpost. Met Mike Smith there and following 2009 vintage went to work for Mike as Assistant winemaker for Carter Cellars alongside making the wines for Envy Estate and a few other projects.

Apsara was my own project, built up from my wife (Aneeta) and my savings, to go all in to make small amounts (because grapes/barrels/corks/labels and glass soon adds up) of wine that I wanted to drink; love powerful Napa cabs, savory syrah from cool vineyard sites and white wines that have a backbone of acidity.

The project’s constantly evolving as I find new vineyards and get fired up to make new wine styles. We’re based in Napa and would love to encourage folks to come by and taste what a small husband and wife team are producing to help us spread the word and drink some wine. Tastings are usually super casual, open some bottles and tastes some barrels, talk wine and whatever else. You can get hold of me; robin@apsaracellars.com

Thanks to all the WB community, massive respect for the knowledge, experience and grounded approach to wine this forum has developed.

Great first post, Robin!!!

Thanks Bud, after years of reading WB I thought it was a good point to chime in. Posts could be a bit sporadic as we’re working hard to bring in fruit before possible rain sunday/monday.

I’d volunteer but i’m stuck in the un-friendly skies.

Robin is a ‘standup’ guy that makes great wines. I have been an early proponent.
His Syrahs are deftly made. His white is beautiful. I have the cabs but have not had one yet. This thread reminds me it may be time…

Robin needs to hire at least one employee named Gus.

At the moment it’s like a giant game of Tetris in the winery, trying to figure out which tanks to press off so we can open up space for more fruit to come in. So far, vintage 2016 looks great across the board, it will be interesting to see how these incoming weather systems develop as there is still a lot of fruit still out there.

Robin tell me the truth does Mike make the wine or Leah?

Hahaha, I can tell you the truth, Mikes a hands on winemaker doing much of the work himself. However when you spend that much time in the cellar you need someone like Leah to handle all the other multiple (often tedious, think red tape and the TTB) factors. Respect [cheers.gif]
