Anyone visited wineries in Bolgheri? Ornellaia, Tenuta San

Just curious - we are staying in Sienna - thought it might be worth the drive? Thoughts?

Not a big fan of the wines. Two hour drive. But if you like the wines, it might be worth it. 20min to the east of Siena is Castelnuovo Berardenga and Felsina. Felsina would be somewhere near the top of my list. A nice place to eat in Siena. And the guy that owns it make some pretty good wines.

We drove over to Tua Rita from just south of Florence where we were staying. Had an excellent tour and tasting with Rita herself.

Well many aren’t big fans - when you consider price and the fact that these international style wines can be had from anywhere in the world - nonetheless - Ornellaia in recent vintages has been doing a very good job in creating a quality product IMO (better than Sassacaia) and moreover I am curious about the natural beauty of the coast? FWIW, I drank a 99 Fontalloro just a couple of weeks ago - agree that it is a very good wine. Thanks for the restaurant recommendation.

We were in Bolgheri last September.Stayed at the Relais Sant’Elena which I cannot praise highly enough.Beautiful property and lovely staff. We visited Tenuta San Guido [ Sassicaia] and had lunch with the Marchese a delightful man who looks like a page out of an Italian history book.Visited Tua Rita as well.Loved the wines .That being said, be aware that most properties charge a significant tasting fee.Ornellaia’s was 90 Eu and they don’t pour Masseto.
