They popped up in my Amex offers so went over to their website. They offer free shipping on 6 bottles and throw in 35% off your first purchase but, the selection looks mediocre/supermarketish. Anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks

Once upon a time, they had terrific wine sections in SF and NY, but they got out of the business in the 80s.
I looked at the reds page and didn’t recognize a single wine. Are these house brands?
Most seem to be private label, but I saw a couple of Magrez wines and a Bila Haut.
I received that AMEX offer also. Took a look at their website … PAZZZZ.
That’s a thing?
My mom almost got suckered in to it with the AmEx deal a few months ago. Something like $70 bucks with free shipping for the sample case. When I looked, it was mostly private label wines with a few names scattered in with a lot of California 2020. More than half didn’t even have a CT entry for the wine or “winery”. I managed to convince her not to do it.
I suspect it is going to be like most of the other [bulk] wine clubs that have sprung up over the pandemic.
I’ve gone down this road with the private label stuff. It seems like such a deal…at less than $10 a bottle, all-in, how bad can it be?
I will allow that everyone has their own definition of “value.“ However, drinking a completely unremarkable and unrewarding wine at a low price doesn’t provide me with any sense of value or gratification. Tons of genuinely good wine is available out there for less than $20 per bottle, from known producers.
Not since the '70s. The Macy’s at the Sun Valley Mall in Concord, CA, had a very nice wine department. Circa 1976/77 I bought Ch. Pavie and Ch. La Gaffeliere from '66 and '70 for $6 or $7 a bottle.
Had a client send me a case as a thank you…not good. Bulked out junk at best. De negoce and Kirkland brand wines are better at the price point.
Macy’s is just the recognizable front end name to give some credibility. It’s these folks: https://www.drinks.com
Its got to be great, they have Martha Stewart selections!
What a bunch of schnooks!
Several years ago (18) I bought a couple bottles of 1955 Climens at auction (acker) and they had Macys labels on them.
Just got the email offer this afternoon.
I have a bunch of friends here in NY who still recount the amazing deals they got during the close-out sale.
