Haven’t had the chance to try it. I know Philippe Melka is involved, but how best to describe it? What is a good comparison?
a good comparison may be older realm, built for age. not drinking well young with unintegrated oak, harder tannins.
Not sure my experience matches Steve’s. I’ve tasted Tusk a few times now, and found it to be a wine unto itself. Not for the faint of heart for sure, and likely very polarizing. It is a huge beast of a wine - a mouthful of flavors. Nothing subtle, more hedonistic than anything. If any wine “goes to 11” this is it. The price tag is a bit steep, especially in the secondary market.
i essentially agree with everything eric said. steep price especially so.
Philippe is winemaker and co-owner. It is sourced from various vineyards around Napa. Philippe calls it his best of the best. I haven’t had it in several years but it was a very complex and robust Napa Cab.
