Anyone Have Experience with Mister Wright Wine In NYC?

I’m considering buying some bottles from them but haven’t seen or heard of their name before either through word of mouth or on the boards. Anyone have any experience with them?

No.

Good place.
Cold room is about a year old.
Newer stuff should be great
Older stuff was stored standard winestore shelves.
Place seems cool enough though

Bg,legit store. Sorta commercial

I used to stop at a bakery in NYC on my walk home from work: Mr. Fresh Bread.
I wonder if they are related?

When I was a kid, I bought ice cream from Mr. Softee. Do you think they are related?

And what did Mrs. Softee think?

I think she was largely dissatisfied.

It’s a big store with a decent but not exciting selection on 3rd Avenue around 88th. Mostly the prices aren’t great. The one time I went there for something specific that I’d seen on Wine Searcher, they didn’t have it.

This. You have to dig but they have some good stuff.

Joe…THANKS for reminding me of the joys of Kid Creole and the lovely Coconuts. So as not to hijack this thread further I started another thread in Asylum for fans to post more vids and anything else…

She was busy with Mr. Plow.

I grew up very closeby and still live in the neighborhood. Up until a few years ago, they were a mediocre store with ordinary shelves. My family shopped there growing up (when not buying from Rosenthal Wine Merchant) but as I got wine conscious, I guided them to Garnet or, for emergency bottles within walking distance, K&D.

Now, that’s changed. They built a cold-room in the back and the wines coming from that room are impeccablely stored. They’ve hired new guys who are serious wine-geeks. The store is particularly strong in domestic obscura - there was a while where the domestic pinot shelf had, in order, Clos Saron, Cameron, and Belle Pente. But note that the domestic stuff is not kept in the cool room, so I’d be a bit wary of high-ticket bottles.

The pricing is uneven, rather than straight exorbitant. For a recent party with cheap sparklers, I couldn’t buy from them - PJ’s was $5 cheaper on a $15 bottle. Prices on burgundy are also pretty high. But there’s plenty of fairly priced stuff mixed in - Garnet isn’t cheaper across the board, that’s for sure.

I’d say they’re now on a par with Garnet - different strengths - and clearly better than K&D. North of 72nd street, there isn’t a better option on the UES.

commercial post: I have made sales calls on them and they sell some of my wines.

Always had a reasonably good selection, much improved recently along with storage. About as knowledgeable, credible and geeky as you can get for what is essentially a neighborhood store.

Thanks guys. I’ll go ahead and order the wine from them. I appreciate the feedback everyone. What a great resource this board is!
