Anyone familiar with this wine? Old Tavern?

i got this as a gift. It is called Old Tavern, special collection. Moldova. I uploaded a picture on cellar trackerto the only vintage shown which was 2005. This bottle has a born on date of 08.05.14. It comes in a standard 750 ml bottle that looks like it fell into a concrete mixer. Black cementitious material envelopes the bottle except where the label is. 16% alcohol.

Any feedback is welcome. [wow.gif]

I am willing to trade this bad boy. Its fairly rare with only 8 bottles on CT. Entertaining any SQN, hundred acre, screagle, Harlan or two btls of Shafer HSS.

Apparently you failed to grasp that that black stuff is meant to look like tree bark. And you omitted to mention the genuine bits of wood imbedded in the black stuff to look like sawn-off tree limbs.

It’s a fortified red. The one bottle I bought (how could I pass up the packaging?) had a strong shoe polish aroma.

The Moldovans need to develop their export markets, but I doubt Old Tavern will help their balance of payments.

I’ve always suspected that Old Tavern was the inspiration for the brilliant and hilarious Jetlag Guide to Molvania: A Land Untouched by Modern Dentistry.

I definatly did not get that John. There was one tiny bit of white something or another on the back side.

Holding the bottle does not help the sensories for this tree bark.

Perhaps you did not get your fair share of limb stumps on that particular bottle. Or maybe they’ve cut costs since I purchased mine a seven or eight years ago. Mine (I couldn’t toss the bottle!) is a minor masterpiece of packaging, with a unique Eastern European flair.

For anyone who’s curious, PJ’s in Manhattan carries this.
