Anyone else having premox issues with Jerome Prevost?

My first post here so apologies for any faux pas.

Has anyone had issue with Jerome Prevost and oxidation?

I’ve been buying the stuff for 4 years and just assumed like any champagne of decent quality it would age well. I’ve opened several of these recently and they show in the glass like a light rose and taste of apple cider. Apparently they are made without sulfur, which might explain it. Regardless, I’m surprised that a wine of that caliber/price point would be so temperamental. This is for the les beguines, I’m afraid to open my & and terrified to open the grand cru’s.

Any thoughts?

I drink Prevost young. I don’t necessarily think it’s premox, however in my experience (and based on conversations with others) the wines do not age well. Since they are so solid from the get, I don’t worry about the lack of aging potential.

Yes one of the recent vintages had major problems.

That was a “mousy” issue, not premox, if we are thinking of the same wines, and they were relegated to the negoce releases (& and Grand Cru, though GC was less problematic). Is that what you were thinking of?

Well it was just a messed up wine as it had multiple flaws.

I drank an LC 18 Beguines recently that was delicious, with the stuffing to go awhile. Kelley says a decade; mine won’t last that long.

Which vintage base Robert?

I’ve had good experiences with aged Prévost. Last year a '07 fac simile (should be the first year produced if I am not mistaken) was really a great champagne.

Good to hear. My recent experiences with back vintage (08 Beguines, 12 Fac) were not bad, per se, but I felt the wines were older than I expected and certainly not better than younger peers of the same bottles.

Assuming you bought from B18 onward, the grand crus should be fine but I would drink those & as I don’t really feel like they improve much with bottle age. As for the LB, I think you just had a bad bottle.

Speaking to the most recent vintage, the two bottles I’ve opened of the LB21 Beguines have both been rotten, one to the point of complete undrinkability, the other in a way that marred the retronasal experience. This had previously happened for me with an LC19 & (though the Beguines from that release was fine). I love Prevost but it put me off buying any further bottles of LB21 Beguines beyond what I already had.

On the other hand, the & and Grand Cru from the latest release were pristine.

FWIW, while one of the two bottles in December was off, the good ones were very good!

Yes. Both are excellent, no issues.

Thank you, that’s good to know, lol, because I have plenty of both and was feeling a bit nervous.

The 22 les beguines is fine, but in my opinion far less remarkable than the 18/19’s I had opened upon release.

The 21 ampersand has issues. I bought two 6 packs last year and just opened one and it was not right. It wasn’t as bad as the ones I described in the initial portion of the thread but I have full confidence in a year they will be entirely gone. I’ll be returning them.

In the future I’ll only buy domaine wines and open them within 6 months.

They have a major problem, imho.

I have always heard and read here, that the mousey aspect was always confined to his négociante wines. And while not universal, there have definitely been more complaints about LB for the last couple of vintages. I do wonder if there was a stylistic change in the celler? Or could it be because he has started to include reserve wines into the mix, or maybe even due to the changing climate. Very strange that LB was so consistent for so long, and this may have now changed.

Mousiness is certainly problematic - and more prominent in ‘natural wines- - anyone have info on winemaking practices?
